Review: Park Hotel Latgola, Daugavpils Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
I am compelled to share a disappointing experience at the Park Hotel Latgola in Daugavpils. Despite the hotel's convenient location in the town's centre, several elements fell considerably short of expectations, deserving no more than a two-star rating.
The hotel itself felt quite dated, a sense that permeated through all aspects of our stay. The TV in our room, already small, only had access to four channels due to some unexplained issue. The aesthetics and functionality of the rooms left much to be desired, with broken tiles and fixtures hanging off the walls.
Our experience with the staff was underwhelming. There was a lack of warm customer service, a simple 'hello' seemed too much to ask. The indifference was especially prominent during breakfast where the staff were unresponsive and dismissive. Furthermore, there was no clarity about the breakfast procedure, leaving us to navigate an unfamiliar environment on our own.
The quality of sleep we got during our stay was impacted by constant noise. Partygoers in the parking lot kept us up at night in the first room, while the second room was disturbed by what sounded like a large air conditioner or generator running throughout the night.
Breakfast at the hotel was a letdown. The options were scant, and the offerings appeared to have remained unchanged for years. The monotony of the same breakfast every day further diminished the dining experience.
However, not all was negative. After being shifted to another room due to an undisclosed spraying activity, we were treated to a complimentary minibar. While this gesture was appreciated, the disturbance of having to move rooms so late into our stay was less than ideal.
In summary, Park Hotel Latgola seems to be coasting on its central location, but the lack of upkeep, poor customer service, and persistent noise issues significantly detract from the overall experience. While the free minibar was a nice touch, it's a mere band-aid on an array of bigger issues. For these reasons, I can only justify a...
Read moreAs someone who grew up in Daugavpils I was always admiring this hotel, until I stayed there! Came to visit my hometown and decided to stay there with my family, well that was a mistake. Reception staff were very nice and friendly, but the rest of the stay was horrible. On the first night staff had a party so the music was very loud which is okay. But not after 22:00. At 01:40 I phoned the reception to ask what is going on because none of us could sleep including the child, her reply was “the music will stop at 2am”. Like really?! Next evening we booked a table for 8 in the restaurant, but we were unlucky again as there was some function at the same time and staff were focused on that. 20 min after we sat, we still didn’t get menus, I had to go and ask. Then they said they had the wine we ordered, but came back saying they actually don’t. For three times. Next, they brought our starter courses together with the main for myself and I sent the main course back. Others got starter courses after their mains. My husband on the other side, didn’t get his main course until everyone at our table had already finished the food, which was two hours after we sat at the table. Next day there was a dog show and there was a lot of people with the dogs, and although most of the dogs were fine, some were left in the room on their own (or maybe the owners were there) and were barking for hours. Needless to say that the noise cancellation is very poor so everything was heard inside our room. On top of everything, there was loud music and cars outside the hotel drifting EVERY evening. Never ever staying there again and wouldn’t...
Read moreThe carpet smelled of chemicals. How did I know this? That’s a great question… The only place that the Wi-Fi worked in our suite was when I sat on the floor next to the door (and even then, just barely). In the rest of the room, we could not even see the access points. Phone, iPad, computer - it didn’t matter - the room was an effective faraday cage for Wi-Fi..
When turning the AC on, we got nothing. Absolutely nothing. However, when switching it to heat mode, we got a trickle of cold air. Thankfully we had our own fans with us to help cool down the room by opening the windows.
The bathroom is an accident waiting to happen. There is a giant tub, but no shower curtain. But there is a mount on the wall for the shower head - which aims the shower head out the door into the carpeted bedroom. Did I mention that there is also an outlet on the wall that the shower aims at?
On the positive side, we had a walk in closet. Not sure what we were supposed to use that for through…
The kids slept on pull out sofas. They are scouts and used to sleeping on thin foam mattresses but both of them complained about how hard the beds were (the main bed was OK - the only redeeming feature of this hotel.
We stayed here because we needed a place for a family of four. Had I the ability to do it over, I would have kept driving to Tartu.
The Chinese restaurant in the mall next door was quite...
