Surprise Hike: A Thrilling Mix of Love, Rage, and Adrenaline
Honestly, it was a sudden thrill—a hike fueled purely by adrenaline, rage, and love. My hubby surprised me with this impromptu adventure out of nowhere. We drove out of the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur at 10 PM, heading straight to Penang, and arrived around 7:30 AM. Without missing a beat, we jumped right into hiking. I swear I’m dying, yet I can't help but love this human being. So here I am, catching my breath and gathering my thoughts for the track review after my rant.
The trail, in my opinion, leans slightly above beginner level—definitely a bit of a challenge. It’s thrilling, to be honest, especially with my man constantly encouraging me (though sometimes a little too insistently). His "go faster" remarks had me both grateful and slightly annoyed, especially when faced with what I now call the “Thousand Stairs of Death” just to reach the halfway point. Seriously, there are around 1,500 steps or more, and that pure stair torture was no joke.
Once you make it past that brutal section, the regular forest trail feels like a blessing—much easier by comparison. After a bit more hiking, we finally reached the top, and let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it. The stunning views and the light drizzle made the cool breeze feel like a soothing reward for all that earlier torment.
So, yeah—that’s my review so far. Despite the exhaustion, the joy of reaching the summit made every step worthwhile. Plus, being surprised like this made the experience...
Read moreThe track is direct and the extremely steep until the middle station. Pack sufficient water and empty your bladder before you hike.
Here’s the tricky part :
When you get to the middle station, you have two options. Either you continue your way up but be prepared to greet a pack ( or two) of stray dogs. They are just doing their job , guarding the area but can be intimidating if you’re a solo hiker or are not a fan of dogs. From our past encounter, they did not bite but they do approach you.
This time around, we decided to switch our routes . we walked back to the middle Station to switch on the right side( coming down) of the station. If you’re coming up, this track is on your left . You will see a small quarters as you exit the middle station.
This track will show you nice views of Air Itam . It was ok , definitely longer than the other track but was seriously lacking signs. We were lost a few times ( ending up in some gardens and dead ends) but a resident was kind enough to show us the way.
Expect 2 hours to go up ( inclusive of water breaks)
Pack a walking stick along with...
Read morethe seven stages of grief I went through climbing this trail should’ve been part of a first act at broadway. I was properly delusional like omg I can do this! and then 1.5 hours later for the first time in my life I chose life. only because ‘dying on a hill’ didn’t look that good on a headstone.
this trail is like endless stairs to hell?? like honestly what a concept for hell? you keep climbing up THINKING you’re getting to heaven but it never ends and you’re just stuck in an endless, helpless loop. THATS WHAT IT FELT LIKE. satan i’m patenting this.
there are 4-5 stops up the hill but i gave up halfway and took the tram up cause i could feel death catching up to me on that stairway. like death was also struggling but i was struggling harder. like. 3000 steps to the MIDPOINT? idk who’s making it up to the top but it’s not gonna be me, not until you pay me $1 per step.
anyway we saw a snake on the trek that i’m 100% sure is the devil himself. 10/10 torture device I respect the determination of whoever built this to test the bounds of my...
