118 Cafe 饮食中心 — Restaurant in George Town

I have not been to this place for more than a decade and in the old days, I recall there are a lot of nice hawker food around but I think over time, the hawkers have probably left and also the cafe most likely change ownership already. But the good news is this place seems renovated and in pretty good condition in general.

But of course the most important thing is the food. I tried the Char Kuey Teow with duck egg and it is pretty good and acceptable. Definitely not on par with the famous CKTs around Penang but still OK. I also tried the apom balik and it is nice although I would have prefered the outer area to be more crispy type instead of soft. There is also a van outside the coffee shop selling fried chicken and it is pretty good and no wonder there is quite a bit of queue here!

I think the hawker stalls here is pretty limited and I hope they can expand more stalls. Else I am not surprised it was not that packed when we went. Overall a decent place but not really recommended if you want to savor all the popular hawker food Penang...

Slightly higher priced on the majority of food there and an average rating on the taste of food at this food court. Notable food at this food court is the Bitter Gourd Soup Stall and the 'Chu Char' Stall (Cook-to-order stall) like Spicy Potatoes Leaves, Emperor vegetables cooked in garlic and Sour Plum Chicken. We ordered the Sambal Potato Leaves, Fried Brocolli, Fried Fish Spring Onion Ginger, and Lotus Root Soup... pair with Tau Ew Bak (Black Sauce Pork) and Fish Maw Soup. We bought drinks right in front the shop entrance. As we ordered food 3 times 3 different person came ask for drinks and mentioned outside drinks not allowed. Finally lady from main counter the drinks kiosk came ask once again why not ordered drinks I said we have already bought and she still saying buy mineral water bawa balik la..so rude and the face like super showing super attitude ends up I order drinks which I don’t really wants to drink. Never come this restaurant. Many years been travelling to penang this my first worst...
