Zoo Melaka is a good destination for a half-day family outing, especially if you're visiting Melaka with kids. The zoo covers a large area and houses a wide variety of animals, including tigers, lions, elephants, birds, and reptiles. The layout is relatively easy to follow, and there are shaded walkways throughout most of the park, which makes walking more bearable under the hot sun.
One of the highlights of the visit was the Elephant feeding session—it was fun and interactive, especially for children. There are also scheduled animal shows (bird shows and keeper talks), which are informative and entertaining. The Dinosaur Encounter section, with life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, was a nice surprise and added something unique to the experience.
However, there are quite a few things that could be improved. First, the maintenance of the zoo is inconsistent. While some enclosures looked well-kept, others seemed a bit run down or empty, with signage that was missing or outdated. Several visitors, including myself, noticed that some animals weren’t visible, possibly due to enclosure renovations or poor visibility.
Another downside is the additional charges inside the zoo. After paying the entrance fee, almost everything else costs extra — the tram ride, certain feeding areas, and access to specific zones. While I understand that such experiences have costs, it adds up quickly and could be better communicated upfront.
The toilet facilities could definitely use an upgrade — during our visit, some restrooms lacked basic hygiene and weren’t well stocked. For a place that welcomes so many families, this is something that really should be prioritized.
Parking was manageable, though it can get quite crowded during weekends or school holidays. I recommend coming early in the day to beat the heat and the crowd.
Overall, Zoo Melaka has potential. It’s an educational and fun place for children, and you can spend a few hours exploring comfortably if you plan ahead. But with better maintenance, cleaner facilities, and clearer pricing, it could be a much better experience for everyone.
Would I return? Possibly, if there are new attractions or improvements. But as it stands, it’s a "good enough" zoo — not great, but not...
Read moreFist timer coming to zoo melaka.
Parking easy to find when i reach there just before 10am (sat). Even it is a long weekend (w/merdeka). I found that the carpark need to pay. It is not a free carpark. If you are coming on weekdays and sat, i believe by right you need to pay for the carpark. if not. depends on your luck.
Photography booth I think zoo melaka should add some photographer taking some candid photos to generate more income. atleast the income can pay for the animal. instead of normal photobooth. some ppl might be interesting to have some candid photos across the zoo. im not sure if this idea can be a good one or not. but you can try. the softcopy version maybe instead of printed. with zoo melaka layout.
animals some animals are still sleeping/resting. some are hiding. some are sick. i hope those animal will be okay soon. glad to see some active animals. even it is not as big as zoo negara, it is still okay. some cages are closed for renovation.
smoking/vaping i found some ppl smoke inside the zoo. not at the designated smoking area. should take this guy photos and put at the entrance. please do not smoke la. many animals and young kids around.
food/drinks i didnot buy any but my wife did. she bought an ice blended cost about rm8. i saw rm5 cendol melaka. some shops are closed. maybe do not have so much demands.
Facility I saw some toiletries across the zoo.
Ticket price RM33 excluded tax
Buggy/transport Got but not sure how much it cost you.
wheelchair user? most of the area are accessible but some path are not suitable. i saw a guy is pushing the wheelchair and also some are pulling the camping cart (kids).
Others I saw the dino-park. Like a small track across the zoo. Unfortunately it closed or under maintenance during my visit.
i rated as 3 stars. So many can be improve. Hope to see much more...
