This embassy is horrible & it's info service online is horrible. Me and my family wasted time, money & effort filling out the OCI application. We traveled very far to the embassy just to find out, my application is denied on the basis, I am an adopted child. There is no information anywhere on the consular or OCI website stating that, an adopted personal are not allowed to apply for the OCI. We asked why, and she say there is no proof I was an Indian from India. Then we asked her, why a spouse who is not Indian, but has a partner with an OCI card able to apply? She just said, that's how the system works. The way she said it was also very disheartening for me to hear as an adopted child.
Both my real parents died when I was a baby, and I was legally adopted from orphanage at a very young age. I have never heard of such a system, where adopted children are not considered part of the family. Since when a family's relationship to their children (foster or blood) is less important than spouses relationship. Both are equally important.
When compared to the US permanent residency system, the moment you are legally adopted by a family, you are part of the family no matter what race, religion or ethnicity you are. You now carry your foster's family blood line. This means if an immediate member of your foster family has a green card, you have the right to apply too. You are a child and a family member of your foster family in the court of law.
My mum also applied for the OCI and got denied, because they said her parents name were different in the original citizenship paper and the IC extract from JPN. One was M.K Madhavan, the other was just Madhavan. My mum did get a signed paper from the Malaysian Commissioner of Oath, stating that both M.K. Madhavan and Madhavan are indeed the same people, but they said that is not enough. They also need an official letter from JPN stating that both names are the same.
As far as me and my family is concern, they will pick on petty things to ensure your application will be denied. Almost most people who came before us also got their application denied for various reasons. Many were denied because the officers said, they lack documents. There is no accurate and detailed info on how to apply for the OCI online.
My advice is go ahead apply for the OCI, but don't be upset if it gets denied. It's not end of the world. Besides, what is India compared...
Read moreWe had gone to the office to convert pio to oci. Worst experience we had there. Despite the confusing rules put up on the website regarding the photo upload and documents upload, for which I wasted money , and time, and finally submitted with difficulty online and it was accepted, hence I though all was well. But in the office, a MALAYSIAN INDIAN staff simply rejected our application because, according to her, there was a problem with uploaded doc-that is, she wanted all pages of pio card to be on one page, however on the website nothing of that sort is mentioned, also we are only allowed to upload one page per document, how are we supposed to upload more than one page when the provision is not given, either they give clear instructions and proper online support or accept our docs. Its not a joke to go all the way there and get rejected despite having all the requirements. Not everyone are IT freaks to phatom what they want without proper instructions. Provision should be made to make the online process more user friendly. Also that Malaysian Indian staff, said that the uploaded docs were too small to read, although I had uploaded the documents in the specified format size and it was accepted in the online registration She was horrible, trying to take us for a ride! If I knew her name I would have mentioned it here. Thankful to the kind Indian Staff FROM INDIA who were very polite and obliging later on who accepted our documents. Had to wait for many hours in the office, with no place to sit. The Malaysians are spoiling the name of the Indian embassy whereas the Indians from India are so friendly and helpful. Even the operator who talks on the phone is so rude and talks to us as if we are some beggars hard up for them, that too its so difficult to get the staff on the phone. Also we had gone on friday, some counters were closed because apparently the staff had gone for their prayers. They never came back at all till we left at 4pm. Hence there was shortage of staff, making the queue...
Read moreAwful place with rude and unprofessional staff. First off we applied for our visa on Melaka. We were then called at 9am to go in for a 2pm interview....in kuala lumpur! Something we were not informed would happen. Secondly when we get the they would not allow myself partner indoors because he was wearing shorts. The website states nothing about dress code, neither did they state this on the phone. We then wasted half an hour walking for ages before we found a shop to buy pants as the security guard in no way offered help suggesting where the nearest clothes shop would be. Thirdly when we get there it was disorganized. No queue no system when we asked someone at about 2:30 when our interview would be he said "about 30 minutes" we waited for HOURS and no one in that office was doing anything as the place got busier and busier. When we finally had our interview at about 5:30pm (why waste our time saying come in at 2:30pm??) The officer asked us bizarre questions irrelevant to our travel. He was intimation and rude. In the end we were only issues a double entry 6 month visa only valid for 30 days within the countey. we paid for a 1 year multi entry visa and made it very clear on our application our itinerary was 2 months long. All in all we feel the system stole 800RM per person as we were sold a?complete lie. We weren't even the most unlucky ones. some People in the high commission missed their flights due to their incompetence. One woman also started waiting at 2pm. She told them MULTIPLE times her flight was at 7:30pm and they kept ignoring her. When he interviewer finally saw her he said it was her fault for not letting them know she was in a rush.
Everyone at this establishment should be fired and more competent people should be brought in. In the end we are glad we aren't spending 2 months in India, if this is how their official government office is run.
Oh also you have to give your phone to security before entering. so we were literally sat around for 4 hours with...
