Important points:- Cash-only payment. Always loved the Salted Egg French Bean, in the previous visit favorite dish was the butter squid on banana leaves, certain food was average but I supposed it depends on individual preference, need to be careful of the slippery floor (if it happened to be), limited parking, Chinese style meal, and a typically nostalgic rustic ambience. Good service memorable moment that will be shared at the end of this review.
Detailed review:- My colleagues love to go to this place for lunch, and been a few times. There are parking around the place or you may try to search in UTC's basement carpark, subject to availability.
As for today I felt that the floor was a bit slippery and I found myself walking carefully. I felt like I might slip and fall anytime because of shoe sole type with the combo of slippery floor.
We headed towards the upper floor to have our meals upstairs.
If you need to go to the toilet (left side), the toilet will be in the 2nd room and the 1st room I presumed is for hand washing. I need to highlight this because my colleague commented that there is no place to wash their hands within the toilet itself; because it's located in a different room. Additionally I'm pleased that they are thoughtful enough to place a stack of serviette on top of the toilet flush tank.
From our previous meal earlier this year, my favourite was the milkly butter squid on banana leaves. Loved the mouth watering gravy together with my warm white rice.
For today, for five (5) of us, we had (translated from Chinese to English according to my best ability with the help of my Chinese speaking friends and Google translate):-
Cost less than RM150 for the whole meal today, quite an acceptable price as we get to taste five different dishes. Average around RM29++ per person.
Furthermore it's a seafood restaurant. The good thing is that there is also something for our vegetarian (as in, non meat food) colleague.
On our previous visit, it started to rain heavily when we finished our meal and need to go to our car. Wow, one of the person in charge of the restaurant took out a very large umbrella (that type where it is placed in the middle of a round table to shade us), opened it up and shade us all the way to our car. Kudos for going extra mile for us,...
Read moreThis is perhaps one of the famous seafood restaurants in Sentul area. Of all places in Klang Valley area, I have to say that Sentul remains the least explored for me. It was raining that evening making it difficult to brace through the bumper-to-bumper traffic but I made it there nonetheless.
This restaurant was already popular among locals and faithful followers but gained significant prominence when featured in TV show. I remember seeing how the owner, Mr Heng, insisted on buying fresh seafood daily by himself at the wet market to cook at his restaurant.
◾Crispy Pork Knuckle - crispy skin and moist/juicy meat were what I was looking for, and they delivered. I quite like the sauce which was similar to Mongolian sauce though. ◾Shrimp Paste Fried Chicken Wings - one of their signature dishes and I could see why.. the wings were marinated with the savoury & pungent paste before deep fried.. everyone fought for a piece of the meat. ◾Sizzling Cuttle fish & Prawns - while the seafood was fresh, it was the homemade sauce that made the difference. Curry-like texture but not quite like it, the combination of sweet & savoury taste made the sauce appetizing. ◾Salted egg mantis prawn - normal dish overshadowed by others. ◾Chinese steamed egg - the kids gotta have something to eat. ◾Stir fried sweet potato leaves
I was glad that I braved the traffic all the way to Sentul. Parking could be a big problem here so time your dinner or lunch wisely.
There are actually two (2) identical restaurants - another one being Zhen Liew Siang - which are about 3km away from each other. Rumors said that they separated due to...
Read moreI have been going to this restaurant for more than a decade. At least monthly because of the food quality and reasonable price. They serve one of the best unique dishes in this part of town. I highly recommend these dishes, well its my usual favourites and literally every time it's the same few for me. Some what cannot get bored of it. First is the Siong Tong Lala, its a bit spicy and heaty at the same time from the cili padi, ginger and rice wine. Lala is also fresh and almost sand free. A good start but occasionally can be a bit salty but most of the time spot on. Next is their Signature Tofu, it's mixed with fish paste and tofu, accompanied with Thai sauce. Not fishy and texture is like firm tofu. The famous Hot Plate Sotong and Prawn is so sinfully nice. Sauce is creamy, presence of curry leaves and has the right balance of sweet and saltiness. Well more on the sweet side. My favourite! Char Chee Sau or Deep Fried Trotters is an interesting surprise, the highlight is the sauce. Creamy and a bit peppery like the Mongolian sauce. It's goes so well with this. Lastly is the Prawn Paste Deep Fried Wings is crunchy, adequately seasoned and there's the Prawn paste scent and taste that is not over whelming. Strangely my lady colleagues go crazy over this dish. It's doesn't come with any sauce so I would suggest you ask for their chili sauce. Overall an awesome place for lunch or dinner gathering with friends or family. Just don't expect to much with the environment and surroundings. Nevertheless, highly...
