This is an old establishment in Setapak, dishing out Teochew favourites. In fact, it is very popular for the Teochew mooncake which is a flat variety with a flaky pastry and vegetable filling.

Their Hokkien Mee is the main attraction here, with almost every table having this signature dish. The noodles are coated in a glistening layer of lard and there are lots of crunchy lard croutons in the noodles as well. The taste was almost perfect and a dollop of sambal elevated the taste even further if you are inclined towards a little spiciness. This is Highly Recommended.

Their other signature noodle dish is the Spicy White Bee Hoon with Shredded Shrimp. The noodles were quite tasty and the spiciness comes from some green chillies stir fried with the noodles. It is by my standards not very spicy, and I would have loved some chili padi to go with the noodles.

Their Fried Snack Set came with Crispy Fried Fu Chok; Fried Fish Cake and a Spicy Pork Roll. The pork roll was dense with minced pork but again, not spicy by my standards. The Fish Cake was rather soft, not the bouncy dense variety I had expected. Of the 3 items, I liked the Fu Chok which was crispy and flavourful.

The Fish Ball Soup came with 5 fish balls and lots of pak choy vegetables. The taste was decent but the fish balls like the fish cake were light and soft instead of dense and bouncy. A bit light on the fish taste too.

I bought their signature Red Bean Biscuit and Vegetable and Pork Biscuit. Other varieties of snacks and biscuits are on sale at the...

I'm not a regular in the Setapak area—just visiting somewhere nearby when this restaurant popped up at the top of the search results. Some reviews warned about poor service. I should’ve listened.

I arrived at 1:30pm and found a table. No one came over. No menu was offered. One staff member was busy joking with customers at the next table. I stood up and looked around—still no one. Eventually, the same staff who’d been joking came over and took my order. By then, 15 minutes had passed.

About 20 minutes later, the fish cakes arrived. We finished them. Then came the vegetables. We finished those too. Ten minutes later, the Sin Chew noodles were served. Again, we finished. But the Hokkien Mee? Never arrived.

After watching the third table get served, I asked two different staff to check on our order. No follow-up. My patience ran out. I went to the counter to pay, and the staff casually asked, “So you want to cancel the additional order?” Blimey—that was the original order, not an additional one. By the time we left, it was already 2:45pm.

So here’s another testimony to their service: You have been warned.

Food was mediocre. Service was poor—apathetic and unapologetic.

It’s an old, tired establishment, seemingly run by underpaid or indifferent staff who couldn’t care less about their customers. An outdated, weary, and dreadful restaurant long overdue for extinction by the...

It was my first try, thinking the food would be to my liking. I ordered stew pork mee hoon, which the order took quite some time to put on my table, I had once thought that the waitress forgot to order from the kitchen. The dish comes with pork lard, quite a decent portion of stew pork. When I ordered, I double checked with the waitress (who is not a local, can hardly understand bahasa or local languages) whether big size is enough for 3 pax, she said with certainty that it is definitely enough. When paid the bill at the cashier, the bill turned out to be RM40 for a big size stew pork mee hoon when the menu written clearly it is RM36. When confronted, an old lady came and raised her voice saying “you ordered for 3 pax, so we charged you RM40”. I then explained that I ordered big size like the menu, and asked your staff whether enough for us (3 people). I did not order extra big, that is not fair. The old lady raised her voice a bit, saying that “I have made extra for you, the price of RM36 is meant for 2 pax only, and you only have to pay RM40 for 3 pax!” What a scam! The whole experience is not pleasant when the food portion is not big, I can order something much better for the same price out there. The shop owner, you will not see me again in your shop, and I will not recommend...

My go-to place whenever I need my teochew pastries fix. Also my go-to place whenever I crave for hokkien mee. Had their hokkien mee since I was little. Taste-wise has changed a little since the last generation and a little more from the last 2 generations, according to my father. Best to visit when it is not so busy as then their quality would be slightly better, in the sense I get to taste back the nostalgic taste. They use their own homemade noodles instead of the usual big fat yellow noodles used in most hokkien mee, which is one of the reason I kept going back there for their hokkien mee. Their signature fried white meehoon is also good although a tad too salty. Fried fuchuk also worth trying. This is a place I go whenever I’m feeling nostalgic. It’s good to see everyone, from the restaurant owner to the staff, are still around after all these years. Definitely brings back memories. And yes, each of them have their own unique character to which may leave you feeling displeased at times but look beyond that.
