During my stay in Butterworth, I felt the urge for a refreshing morning stroll, prompting me to turn to Google for options. That's when I discovered the Taman Tunku Recreational Park.
Situated in the Prai area, around 4-5km from my Butterworth hotel, the park was a convenient 15-minute drive away, thanks to the smooth traffic flow that day. The park offers two entrances: one near the mosque, where parking is roadside due to the lack of dedicated parking space, and the other near a housing area, equipped with a designated parking area and well-maintained public washrooms. With two clean cubicles and absence of urinals, the washroom facilities were decent.
The park's allure lies in its abundant foliage, shaded by numerous towering trees. However, the overall care for the greenery seemed lacking, as the plants appeared somewhat neglected.
Despite its natural charm, the park had a couple of drawbacks. The rivers within the park were disappointing, characterized by dirty water, debris, and an off-putting grey-brown hue. Even so, I noticed a handful of individuals attempting to fish in these less-than-ideal waters, comprising both locals and foreign workers.
The park's wooden bridge requires immediate attention, displaying damage in parts and uneven spacing between wooden boards, which could pose a safety hazard for visitors. A playground for children is present but showed signs of neglect, warranting a revitalization to ensure child safety.
Notably, the park's visitors primarily comprised elderly individuals. With that said, it's evident that Taman Tunku Recreational Park needs significant restoration and improvements. As the jurisdiction of Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (Seberang Perai City Council), I hope the park receives the attention it deserves for an improved experience for both locals and...
Read moreThe park is cool and shady with lots of greens. It is nice to walk and jog there. The drawbacks are the polluted and smelly streams. The toilets are never open and run down or is it for show. I sincerely hope that whoever is in charge or managing this park will be more responsible and take immediate action to resolve the above issues before further deterioration takes its course.
UPDATE.. After 2 long months, STILL NO ACTION taken to get the PUBLIC TOILET open to the public....Is the Bandaraya Seberang Perai that poor? Is there no $$$ allocation to maintain this toilet? What's happening and what's going on??
Latest.... Finally the PUBLIC TOILET is opened. Great job. Periodically there's one or more culprits dislodging black sludge into the river causing it to turn black and causing the area to be filled with stench. I sincerely hope that the authorities will seriously look into this issue ASAP before the river wildlife goes extinct.
Present.... Of late there's a homeless man occupying one of the shelter in the park and I don't know if it is the same guy(topless) that smack something on my car while I was sitted inside with my wife...frightening. I hope the authorities in charge of this park will take immediate action before someone gets hurt.
2weeks ago.. Everything is great except that there was black sludge in the river. MBSP did not take any action against the culprit that is dislodging black sludge into these rivers. It is and was a periodic sludge dislodgement and is killing many wildlife in it. Please...
