Updated April 2025 I think they do very well fried chicken chop, it’s fried to perfect crispiest and it’s not oily when served. They also smart to separate the sauce aside so that customer can choose to dip or put the sauce on the chicken chop. We discovered another hidden gem, laksa with fried bean curd. Both are the best combination. The fried bean curd best soak with the laksa soup, it’s so different from what we use to eat it with noodle. Think will reorder the next time visit. Lunch hour is a good choice if you wanted to dine in comfortably with lesser crowd. Easy vehicle parking as well. Interior design modern and tables layout neat and spacious. Always wanted to try this cafe food as all looks so instagramable, especially the blue pea flower related food & beverage items. Staff are friendly and approachable. Order chit was place on every table for customer to fill in but the friendly staff assist to take out order. For a first timer, I wanted to order something special for elderly to try. A nasi set, a western set, a dessert and a drink. Nasi Biru Ayam Masak Merah overall combination is ok. But we over estimated the blue rice, not really stand out from the dish on the taste and texture. Ayam Masak Merah is standard taste, spicy level okay. As for the chicken chop, we like their special home/house sauce “Empat Sekawan” to go with the fried chicken. Recommended to try this. We requested less sweet and less ice for the dessert and beverage to suit our level of sweetness and it taste good and better. Sui Chin Chin served with coconut milk are light in this way and less sinful. I find the northern light (coffee, milk and blue pea milk) special as the combination taste a bit smokey. This might goes well when serving it hot and best pair with some cakes or small pastries. It’s a family friendly place and all races friendly place as well. It’s best for friends gathering over some...
Read moreThis is the 2nd time we are at this cafe at Bayan Lepas and found that when compared to the first time, our table was cramped to the side of the semi stairs. Maybe the staff had rearranged the tables due to more customers at the lunch hour timing but the person who sat at the side near to the semi stairs to the higher level had some difficulty getting in and out.
Food wise, there was a mixture of sentiments as to the quality of the food, serving size, and the environment. Place was packed but food was served pretty quick. Portions are considered good today and overall quite a pleasant experience.
Price wise, pricey for drinks and added with the 6%SST and the 10%service charge, overall were taxed the amount equivalent to a meal from the menu like that.
Oh yes, just wanted to share with you all that if one were to order the Northern Light drink, do bear in mind that the drink with and without ice will be different as shown in the attached photo. I was very very disappointed as when the drink came, it looked totally different than what was shown in the menu. The waiter explained that if this drink does not have ice, it will be like normal coffee coloured drink. Why didn't anyone explain that to have the effect of the Northern Light colours, the drink must have ice? Future improvement: Hope that the staff could take note of this and explain to future customers so that expectations are set and everyone will be aware of this difference in appearance of the drink, if it comes with or...
Read moreTldr; Empat Sekawan offers great diversity of local cuisine as well as western food, and all of them are delicious ! With a great environment and quick service, this is a great place for lunch/dinner and to have a small gathering for up to 8ppl no problem.
Review: I've tried their lemon chicken chop, nasi lemak ayam rendang, nasi lemak with died chicken before, while not the best, they are definitely one of the best amongst the ones I have tried. The flavour, portion and presentation of the food is just spot on.
For their nasi lemak, it was all I could ask for. Fragrant rice, crunchy outer skin for the chicken, tender meat, crispy ikan bilis and a really yummy sambal.
Their chicken chop was just as delicious. Crunchy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Paired with a sweet and sour lemon sauce, makes it so much more flavourful than it already is.
Service was very fast even though the restaurant is quite packed. Servers were attentive and very quick in action.
The restaurant is air conditioned and light very well. It is very clean as well. The spacing is fairly tight, but still able to move around without an issue. Although you might have to wait if you're visiting at peak lunch hours.
