Before my trip to Pangkor, I saw many people recommending this place, saying it was an absolute must-visit. After experiencing it myself, I can confidently say that it truly lives up to the hype! The hornbill feeding session at 6.30pm daily was such an unforgettable and fascinating experience. At first, I thought there would be an entrance fee or some sort of charge, but to my surprise, it was completely free! This is actually the front yard of a kind-hearted local’s home near Teluk Nipah. He noticed that Pangkor has a population of wild hornbills and decided to start feeding them regularly. Now, the birds have become accustomed to the routine, and visitors get the rare chance to interact with them up close. Although donations are welcome, the host humbly refuses them, making this a truly generous and selfless act. We arrived early at around 5.30pm, and to our delight, we could already spot a few hornbills perched on the power lines nearby, as if they were patiently waiting for their evening feast. However, the real spectacle began at 6.30pm when dozens of them started flying in! The host organizes the feeding in an orderly manner, giving each visitor three small pieces of banana along with a wooden skewer to hold up the fruit. Watching these magnificent birds swoop down gracefully to grab the food was absolutely thrilling! It was such an amazing and interactive experience to be so close to the hornbills, observing their behavior and even feeding them directly. That evening, I was lucky enough to witness 18 hornbills gathering at once, which made it even more special. And just when I thought the experience couldn’t get any better, something incredible happened! As we were leaving and walking toward the main street, we suddenly spotted two hornbills perched on the metal frames above some food stalls. It was such a magical moment—seeing them in a more natural setting, freely flying around after being fed. The feeding spot outside the host’s home may be the main attraction, but these hornbills don’t just stay in one place. Some of them continue exploring the area, and I was lucky enough to encounter them again! Honestly, even in a zoo, you don’t get to be this close to such amazing birds. If you’re visiting Pangkor, this is an experience you simply cannot miss! It’s not only fun but also a rare opportunity to appreciate these beautiful birds up close. Make sure to arrive early, enjoy the peaceful seaside atmosphere, and get ready for an unforgettable...
Read moreAn awesome experience with the big birds flying towards you and eat the banana while others flying across or even watching in front of you! Must experience it. I stay at Nipah Bay Villa, so I just walked there two evenings. It's free. Every day 6:30pm, the kind uncle walks out from his house with a tray of cut bananas and gives to whoever wants to feed the birds. He even teaches us to use slow motion effect for our videos! I bought the banana for the uncle but he told me the birds don't eat those type (I've forgotten the name). So ask the uncle...
