The Lord Murugan Statue at Batu Caves is not just a religious landmark but a powerful symbol of devotion and cultural pride. Standing tall at the entrance, the golden statue is awe-inspiring and sets the tone for a spiritually uplifting visit. If you truly wish to feel the essence of holiness, this is a place that should not be missed.

The entire temple complex is very well maintained. Cleanliness is top-notch, especially considering the number of daily visitors. Restrooms are available and properly kept, which is a big plus. There are plenty of food stalls and shops nearby, offering refreshments and local items, adding convenience for both pilgrims and tourists.

Climbing the colorful flight of steps leading up to the caves is both a physical and spiritual journey. The views and atmosphere at the top make the effort worthwhile. It’s a space where faith, architecture, and nature blend beautifully.

However, one aspect that deserves attention is the behavior of certain staff near the base of the temple steps. We noticed a few instances where foreign tourists, excited by the surroundings, were met with a cold or unfriendly response. These visitors are here to admire and learn, and a warm approach would go a long way in making their experience more meaningful. Hospitality should reflect the values of the place itself.

On a positive note, the parking facility was excellent—well-organized and spacious, making arrival and departure hassle-free.

Batu Caves is a must-visit site that offers spiritual energy, architectural wonder, and cultural richness—just with a small reminder that kindness should be extended to all who come...

Located at the foot of Batu caves in Gombak - Selango (about 12 kilometres to the north of Kuala Lumpur), Lord Murugan Statue is the tallest statue in Malaysia at 42.7 metres in height.

It is also the third tallest statue of a Hindu deity in the world, after Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue in Indonesia (122 metres in height, including the 46-meter base pedestal) and Kailashnath Mahadev Statue in Nepal (45.5 metres in height).

Lord Murugan Statue was built by Tamil Malaysians with the help of 15 sculptors from India. It costed 2.5 million Ringgit Malaysia (about 600,000 US dollars) and took 3 years of construction, with 350 tons of steel bars, 1,550 cubic metres of concrete and 300 litres of gold paint used. It was unveiled in January 19th, 2006 during Thaipusam festival.

Lord Murugan, in Hinduism, was a son of Parvati and Lord Shiva (the God of Creation and Destruction), as well as brother of Lord Ganesha.

The construction of the Lord Murugan Statue right in front of the Batu caves entrance is said to be related to a story.

One day, Lord Shiva wanted to pass the throne to one of his two sons, he devised a challenge by throwing a stone far away, if anyone found it, he would inherit the throne.

The clever and crafty Murugan devised a plan to offer Lord Shiva a fake stone. However, that incident did not go unnoticed by Lord Shiva and he punished Murugan by keeping it at the foot of the mountain. At the same time, the 272 steps leading to Batu caves also correspond to the 272 days when his brother Ganesha found the stone and ascended the throne. So, Lord Murugan redeemed himself by helping...
