Kumbakonam Coffee (Hot, No Sugar) = RM4.50 Veetu Thosai = RM2.50
6% SST = RM0.42 5% Service Charge = RM0.35
This was a Restoran located relatively nearby within a Short Walk from Batu Caves. Relatively Large Place, there were not much Customers as of 8.00am on a Tuesday Morning. The Staffs are Friendly and Polite and mostly kept to themselves.
The Signature Dish of this Place is actually their Bamboo Rice however that is only available for Lunch so I randomly just ordered something else from their Menu. It took 3 Mins for the Coffee and 5 Mins for the Thosai. Everything was served up within 5 Mins.
Kumbakonam Coffee (Hot, No Sugar) = RM4.50
Hahaha I'll admit, I chose this simply because the Name sounded Exotic. Served in a Modern Cup, it looks Very Normal with a Very Frothy Top and a Milky Coffee Aroma.
Tastes like a Regular Normal Milk Coffee actually and although isn't those Super Gao Gao Strong type, it can still wake you up. But overall, nothing particularly special about this.
Veetu Thosai = RM2.50
There are Many Variations of Thosai as you can see on the Menu and this was another Random One I chose.
Wow this thing was Huge! According to them, this is considered their Small already. It has a Somewhat Yeasty Aroma of some type of Grain that I'm unfamiliar with. The Bite Texture is similar to a Western-Styled Pancake but with a Unique Noticeable Slight Sourish Note compared to other Thosais I've eaten in the Past. To be fair, I'm not Familiar with Thosai since I don't eat alot of them, I neither like nor dislike this.
There are 3 Condiments/Gravy served and I'll describe each one of them.
Dhall Served at Room Temp, this has a Watery Texture. I do like the Gao Gao taste that isn't Dilluted. There is a Slight Lingering Spiciness that doesn't bite. If you have eaten Dhall before and is ok with it, you will likely have no issues with this too.
Coconut Chutney This is something I've heard of but not tasted before. White in Colour, it has a Pureed sort of Texture to it with a Noticeable Texture of Coconut Flakes. What threw me off abit is this Lingering Taste of Milky 奶味 on my 1st Taste which felt Unusual at first but I quickly got used to it. There is a Slight Spiciness to it. Interesting Taste.
Spicy Chutney Now this one is Elevated Spicy with also a Slight Sourish Note and a Pureed Texture. I actually like this. It has this Fiery Spiciness to it and because of the Sourish Note, has a Very 开味 Appetizing sort of Taste that will really Open up your Appetite to eat more. This is Not Bad.
Mixing all 3 Condiments together with the Thosai gives a Complex Taste. Abit of Spicy Sourish and Abit of Coconuty Creaminess all rolled together nicely. This is not bad tasting.
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM4.50 (S$1.40) I don't feel is worth the price for this Cup of Coffee. There is nothing special about it as it looks, smells and tastes just like a Regular Milky Coffee. Skip this.
At the Price of RM2.50 (S$0.80), this Thosai was amusingly more affordable than their Coffee. For what it is, this felt Affordable. I especially liked the 3 Condiments given which gave this Thosai a Decent Taste. If you are looking for a Thosai, I can recommend to give this a try.
Overall, I have not much issues with this place. Its an Average Decent Acceptable Eatery with Decent Customer Service and the Prices felt reasonable. The only thing that was disappointing was that Coffee which was nothing really special. Other than that I have no further issues.
Don't let my Average Score deter you from this Place. If you are looking for a Decent Indian Eatery after your visit to the Batu Caves, I can still recommend this nearby place for a Decent Indian-Styled Meal.

Read moreCompared to other Indian restaurants, this establishment is significantly overhyped. The high rating appears biased and does not reflect the actual quality of the dining experience. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that the service and food quality did not match the expectations set by the reviews.
The service was particularly disappointing. Despite calling the waiter multiple times for a second refill, it was only on the third attempt that he finally responded. Such inattentiveness shows a lack of training and customer care, which is unacceptable for any restaurant that claims to offer a quality dining experience.
The food itself was equally underwhelming. The banana leaf set, which came with chicken, was sparse in portion and the meat was tough and difficult to chew. Adding to the disappointment, many basic menu items such as roti canai and poori were unavailable during my visit. A restaurant has a responsibility to ensure that ingredients are sufficiently stocked before opening. This lack of preparation indicates poor management and disregard for customer satisfaction.
Hygiene was another major concern. While the restaurant’s location near Batu Caves may give the impression of a promising culinary experience, the actual cleanliness was far from acceptable. Tissues were scattered around the trash bin near the toilet, and the bin itself was overturned. Cleanliness should be a basic standard in any food establishment, especially one that seeks to represent Indian cuisine to both locals and tourists.
The only redeeming aspects of my visit were the nescafe drink made with cow’s milk and the pani puri, which were decent. Unfortunately, these few positives were not enough to outweigh the many issues I encountered. Overall, the restaurant fails in service, food quality, and hygiene, making it an experience I...

Oh Yeah Banana Leaf Restaurant, located near Batu Caves Temple, is a fantastic spot for a meal after exploring the area. The food here is excellent – though a bit on the pricey side, the portion sizes are very generous, so you’re definitely getting value for your money.
The restaurant offers an amazing Indian-Malaysian fusion menu, bringing together a range of great flavors. You’ll find everything from traditional Indian options like dosa and briyani to Malaysian favorites like nasi lemak. They also have a good selection of fresh juices and unique drinks that make the experience even better.
We tried the banana leaf meal, and all three of us were thoroughly satisfied. The meal was flavorful, with all the authentic spices and sides that make banana leaf dining so special. We also ordered a few drinks – a mojito mocktail, pasupal tea, and rose jigarthanda – all of which were refreshing and added a nice twist to the meal. The chicken varuvel was delicious as well, spicy and perfectly cooked, making it a great addition to the meal.
The total bill came to RM75, which felt reasonable given the quality, portions, and overall experience. The place has a great ambiance with friendly staff, making it a warm and welcoming spot. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Batu Caves. Whether you’re in the mood for traditional Indian flavors or a Malaysian twist, Oh Yeah Banana Leaf Restaurant has you covered. A great place that I’d definitely...
