Before visiting, be sure to check the Facebook page for upcoming opening days or events. The garden does not yet have regular opening times, which is why you might otherwise be standing in front of closed doors. During my visit I was lucky that it was open and although the garden is no longer its original size and not everything is accessible, there were a lot of details to discover. One can only thank the volunteers and show their respect for how they lovingly restore the garden and bring it back to life. It is also worth taking a look at the history of the garden and Villa Frere. Thanks to the constant work of the volunteers, there is always something new to discover here.

Villa Frere, a captivating spot in Malta, left me impressed with its beauty and charm. The gardens are simply stunning and are well maintained. What truly stands out at Villa Frere is the dedication of the volunteers who work tirelessly to preserve and restore this historical gem. During my visit, Caroline, one of the volunteers, kindly showed us around. Her extensive knowledge about the villa and its history added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. If you appreciate beauty, history, and the devotion of dedicated individuals, make sure to include Villa Frere in your itinerary.

If you love history and gardens of Malta, this is a rare hidden gem that you must visit. I am still in awe by the rare sights of this garden. Its size, history, blend of flora and even the villa itself. It is still a long way from fully restored but the work in progress is evident and I recommend anyone to help out with a donation. Amazing initiative of 'Friends of Villa Frere' is to open the garden to the public every Sunday of every month - but best check the Facebook page / group for more information. It is open for a minimum donation of 5 euros.

beautiful gardens, often open on a sunday, but you need to look out for the open days. On open days they also have plants for sale and you can also check out memorabilia and photographs from the period when the garden was in active use. The place is run by volunteers and there is a strong community feeling when you go there. The garden itself is split up into a series of intimate spaces which really make roaming it a lovely experience.
