According to the Biblical account, Publius was a Roman ruler on Malta when the Apostle Paul was shipwrecked here, and was converted to Christianity through Paul’s ministry. Tradition holds that he later became the leader of the church here, and the main square in the town of Mdina is named in his honor, though the cathedral here is named for St. Paul himself.

In February, during the carnival, it is a place where for several days it shows the world of colors, characters and loud music. Great show with countless platforms and hundreds of those involved. Fantastic time definitely worth coming here at this time!

Праздник или Феста святого Публия - это один из главных праздников Мальты. Главные торжества по этому поводу происходят на самой большой площади Мальты. Эта площадь как раз и находится в городе Флориана возле Собора Святого Публия. Публий - это первый епископ Мальты, а также один из первых кто принял христианство на острове. По легенде из-за кораблекрушения на остров попал апостол Павел. После чудесного спасения он сразу же начал проповедовать христианство и при этом творить чудеса. Он исцелил Публия и после этого чуда он тут же принял христианство. Рыцари устроили перед собором подземное зернохранилище, о котором ныне напоминают лишь круглые каменные плиты - крышки отверстий. Обычно их принимают за остатки колонн.
