Looove this market. It's much closer than I thought. As a sort of hidden gem, it attracts a smaller neighborhood crowd. The fruits and meats are very fresh, prepared by very friendly people.
The meals/food-stalls are fantastic and widely variant. I had molletes with one-half frijol and queso, plus a little pica de gallo, the other-half toasted with butter and strawberry jam, a small cafe con leche, and a large, fresh orange juice totalling $74 MXN. I ordered a little off the menu; an average meal is here is around $50 MXN. The service was very friendly.
I also bought some home supplies, a large broom, a little broom, and a dust pan for $103 MXN. There were more fruit stands than anything else, but there was plenty of everything you need for a mostly food oriented...
Read moreI don't think this is the best market in the city, but that is some tough competition in and around Guadalajara. I like this market because of the birria. There is a famous birria stall upstairs that keeps me coming back time and again. I actually look forward to my immigration appointments because I get to have breakfast in Mercado Alcalde afterwards. Look up Birrieria David. There are 3 birria stalls upstairs but David is by far the best. One his place is full some of the excess demand spills over, but he and his dad have been doing this for generations. And grab a pineapple juice on your way...
