STOP thinking about renting a room at this hotel. Aside from the location, of which there are many other options, this place is complete GARBAGE! Do not be fooled by pictures. We rented 2 rooms for our family to stay in during our trip and it was a mess. They tried to put us in rooms on the first floor which were absolutely abysmal. They smelled like mildew, the cheap laminate floors were coming up and peeling, the toilet stopped working after one use and the a/c didn't work. No microwave, no fridge, no ironing board, horrible wifi, and tiny televisions. The elevator also didn't work for the 2nd floor. We complained and were only moved to a better room once we stated that we were taking our business elsewhere. Unfortunately we were kinda stuck because my father had rented the rooms through a 3rd party website due to fear of getting to GDL and not having an immediate place to stay. Once in our rooms we realized that the A/C couldn't be shut off unless the electrical to the room was turned off (no lights and all). The bathrooms were gross and I was glad to have brought flip flops. We tried using the pool and it was absolutely freezing. The jacuzzi didn't work for the entire 7 days there. We tried the restaurant downstairs and it was nasty. Don't bother. The service was horrible. They took forever to bring out our breakfast, forgot syrup, butter and my daughters drink. I had to ask multiple times and by the time they did, our breakfast experience was done. Then, despite telling them we had a tour reservation waiting for us outside, they took an eternity to bring us the check and allow us to pay. Once they brought the card reading machine over, they insisted on a tip multiple times that I flat out declined. I don't give my hard earned money away for horrible service. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this place to my enemy. Steer clear and look for better options. If you have a family there are some wonderful Airbnb options as well. I don't think I will ever forgive this place for partly ruining my first time to Guadalajara

*Edit 1- As we were getting ready to leave we could see that the staff had been made aware of my review. I'm glad they were! Unfortunately I had one of the bell attendants PEDRO made his way over to me and asked me if I had had a problem with his service as management had apparently blamed him for my comment. Not at all the truth. Pedro was good to us and professional from day 1 until the end. Hotel management should be ashamed and should take responsibility for their hotel. At no point did management bother to address anything with us. They could've but instead blamed Pedro. Not...

Very highly Recommend. This is an update to my previous review, as this is my fourth stay here. The rooms are clean and the staff are very friendly and responsive. Great roof view of the city. Only improvement I would recommend in an otherwise perfect experience would be for them to fix their bathtub drain lines since they drain very slowly. The first three nights I ended up showering with water up to my ankles due to the slow drain. Three mornings in a row I complained at the front desk and was told by the personnel they would send someone to fix it. No change in drain rate. Finally they admitted that a number of rooms on that line had that same problem and they could do nothing about it. I even spoke to their maintenance person who said the same thing. So they moved me to another room on a different floor with the same problem but this time the water, while slow to drain, didn't come up to my ankles during a short 3 minute shower, but it was 1-2 inches deep. A friend of mine complained about the hard beds, but while they are a bit stiff, to me they were comfortable to sleep in. I should rightly give this a 3 or 4 star review due to the delayed maintenance and occasional tired/overall worn look of furnishings, faucets, towels, etc, but THE LOCATION and staff friendliness pushes it to the TOP of available choices in the downtown area. They are also painting around the hotel which helps. Rosendo, who works in the restaurant, is a prime example of someone who made our stay worthwhile!! We tried a couple other nearby hotels to consider for future visits, and while they were newer, they were "colder", more "sterile" and didn't compare in the heartfelt old town classiness and comfort afforded by this marvelous hotel. I'd love to talk to the owner/manager about more detailed feedback to help them since I travel throughout the world a lot. But suffice it to say that the Hotel de Mendoza is a must-stay locale in the heart of...

If you want to disconnect from the world and experience historical downtown without interruptions of the modern world this is your spot. Great location in the heart of the Historic downtown! Now, if you still have to live in the real world while you are here for a few days you may want to look elsewhere… we are traveling for my husband’s birthday but I still have to work sending and receiving emails and documents… in Hotel Mendoza you CANNOT count on the WIFI. Prior to our trip and upon arrival they insisted they had 5 routers throughout the hotel so I would be able to work without interruptions when I needed to. Well, truthfully there are only 2 networks, only one reaches the third floor and it doesn’t work, not even for emails, much less to watch a movie on Netflix… (on your own computer btw). We paid for an upgraded room with many nice features promised, some of which (like the waterfall shower head) didn’t even exist…. We went to get ice at 8:30 in the evening and they said they only have one ice machine and it wouldn’t be ready for 3 hours, which I can’t really wait for since I have an early appointment tomorrow. All in all it was a very mediocre experience with the hotel itself but the location is phenomenal. Come here to relax when you can disappear from real life for a bit but if you need to stay connected, it’s not a great choice. Hopefully they will upgrade their rooms and WiFi to make it more convenient for the modern traveler while still preserving the Historical,...

Unique hotel with great views of the cathedral, plaza, and theater. If you are not lucky enough to have a view of the lighted cathedral at night the hotel has a rooftop that affords views in every direction. Every corner of the hotel has something different and unique to take in. Rooms are spacious and well decorated. Price is affordable, less than $100 per night. Service was good, parking secure, and amenities ok. We didn't particularly care for the restaurant but food was still OK. Our thermostat never worked properly but it was a small price to pay for such a unique stay. The Hotel De Mendoza, built in 1968, is located in the area that dates from the 16th century where the Convent of Santa Maria de Gracia was located, occupied by the Dominican nuns, which also served as a girls' school. The Hotel De Mendoza preserved its colonial architecture, the furniture in the rooms was hand painted by Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo, originally from Colima, famous worldwide who established his own “Rangeliano” style. Paintings by the Mexican artist Agustín Parra, who produced artwork for Pope John Paul II, adorn some of the walls as well as a beautiful mural painted by the Michoacan artist José Maria Servin who has been awarded internationally.

Excellent location and very friendly staff. Not all staff speak English, but someone will. Wifi can be spotty in your room if your room is located at the end of a hallway. Free breakfast is NOT included, but free parking IS available. If you want power to stay on in your room, you need to insert a door key card in the wall....when you take the key card out, all power will shut off in your room, even the alarm clock. Beds are firm if you like that. Also NOT included in your room: hairdryer, refrigerator, coffee maker, kettle, or iron. There IS a lockable safe you can put valuables into by using a 4-digit code that you can choose yourself. There IS a pool and hot tub, but the water wasn't warm enough to use. There is NO gym. There IS a beautiful rooftop terrace, but ask the front desk when it is open. If not super fancy, but you don't need all that extra stuff, you'll be fine. It's neat and clean. Enjoy your stay and wander the immediate area because the location is fantastic!

This hotel should not be marketed or listed as a 4 star hotel. It is more like a 3 star hotel. PROS: Centrally located to landmarks, restaurants, cafes and night clubs. Safe area if you need to wander around at night. Staff is incredibly friendly and courteous. The architecture of the property is beautiful - the terrace has incredible views. Wi-Fi was consistent but slow compared to what you might be used to if you’re from the US. CONS: The beds and pillows are not comfortable. The bathroom needs major renovations - the water pressure is hit or miss. The air conditioner takes a while to cool the room. The television did not work. There is no refrigerator in the room - they offer to store medicine at a refrigerator downstairs in reception but it becomes a hassle every time you need to get your medicine, for example, insulin. The room cleaning is hit or miss. The pool is small and their “hot” tub is not hot.
