Gross! Do not swim or surf at this beach during the rainy season. The water is highly polluted. My girlfriend got very sick from just putting her head in the water. The next morning she woke up with a bad cough and flu-like conditions and she never gets sick.

Unfortunately the main point breaks certain spot is very close to the main river outfall so it is very polluted as well.

The fact that the water is between 85 and 86° during the rainy season makes it even worse because the bacteria proliferates faster in warm water.

Add to the disappointing water quality is the fact that vendors have crowded the beach with lounge chairs that you have to pay for so much of the sand is taken up in this way.

Some have called this a magical town but unfortunately that no longer applies to Sayulita unless that saying refers to black magic in the fact that a once beautiful place has turned into a trashy overcrowded disappointing vacation spot.

My best advice is to avoid this place and look for somewhere that is cleaner and less...

Sayulita is a fun place to hang out for people in their 20's to mid 30's. Cool little beach town with lots of bars. This place is a tourist mecca. Tons of American tourists walking the streets and hanging out on the beach. It's like a mini Waikiki, HI. If you are there on a weekend it will feel like being at Huntington Beach during the surfing US Open. Zooropa! The beach has a cool little 1-3 ft break but you will need to be at your best slalom riding to avoid all the other surfers in the water, both those who know how to surf and those who are trying to learn how to surf. For quieter surroundings head north to San Pancho or Lo De Marcos for way more laid back atmosphere. The down side...the sure isn't as consistent. Bottom line I wouldn't recommend Sayulita for a surf trip. There are many other places to go in Mexico with less crowd factor and better surf.Passing through the town for an overnighter would be all one will need of...

There were a lot of street vendors everywhere you went. But we did take advantage of some of them to get the shopping out-of-the-way and there are also choices to get massages on the beach which I absolutely loved.

I would not get in the water because of past experiences that I had there with the crashing into rocks and a huge undertow. They Water also looked pretty dirty to me and some of the people that got in the water it up getting rashes from what was ever floating around in there.

There are a lot of restaurants that have places to sit on the beach as long as you are ordering something to eat or drink.

The is no longer a tiny little fishing village, it has grown so much since I have last been there. It is a good place to surf if you’re into that or just to go people watching.

I WOULD go back but not...

I did not like sayulita beach at all and it's sad to see how much tourism and money has destroyed what was once a beautiful piece of nature. It was only a few years ago when you could come to sayulita and see only a few beach chairs, umbrellas, and people. Now when you come to sayulita, the beach is extremely crowded, there are so many chairs and umbrellas that you barely see any actual beach sand, there are tons of people in the water you can barely surf, and you are harassed non stop by vendors. Such a shame!
