ChocoBanana — Restaurant in Nayarit

I had saved Chocobanana on my places to go in Sayulita by first finding them on Instagram. When we walked around the Sayulita plaza and accidentally stumbled upon it I decided we should do lunch here.

We were allowed to sit wherever we wanted and immediately brought menus. We ordered the mint tea and ginger punch. Both were refreshing and delicious! The ginger punch was a shot of ginger juiced into a pint of orange juice giving it just the right amount of bite.

We also ordered the guacamole and bacon cheeseburger. The chips were a smidge on the greasy side, but you could tell they were fresh and homemade. The bacon cheeseburger came on a wheat bun with lettuce, tomato, and pickles on the side and you could tell the pickles were homemade, too. The French fries were also fresh, but not double-fried so they’re more like thin potato wedges than fries. Everything was yummy!

I loved how they offered an A&W root beer float because I’m not sure where else you could find that in Sayulita, Punta Mita, or Puerto Vallarta; I have yet to see anything like it. But my most favorite part was the owner greeting us herself and taking care of us when we paid our bill. The walls are covered in photos, so you can’t miss her when you see her. She runs a tight ship and I appreciate it because that’s how you maintain quality food and customer service.

The food was simple and honest. We were constantly doted on and asked if we wanted anything else by at least three different servers. They play yacht rock (music from the 70s) and it really made the whole experience different than other restaurants. We were able to pay by card here also...

I’ve been coming here since 2010 and was always looking forward to having breakfast burritos here when I was in Sayulita.

Unfortunately this time I’ve been grossly disappointed. First visit I had the breakfast burritos, the side of potatoes was tiny and cold. I ordered a frappucino as well, they didn’t have a straw. Have you tried drinking a frappucino without a straw? It’s impossible. You can either eat it with a spoon or wait until it’s liquid, neither of which I can recommend. Then I had to wait 10 minutes for the bill when I wanted to leave.

I thought I’d give them another chance the next day and try a burger for a change. This time I waited 20 minutes without a waiter bothering to serve me. When I finally got the burger it wasn’t good.

Might have been good 20 years ago, but hey, the present is ahead of you know. 2 star for location and atmosphere, also not...

First time here was excellent. Service from our waiter was great he spoke with us and gave us recommendations. The food was excellent and well priced for the area. Pancakes were awesome. Yes there are bees and they like syrup and jam but they are not aggressive and there is not much they can do to keep them out. My only complaint here was the host took our payment which was double what our bill was and never brought change back, we had to wait and finally ask for our change back. Otherwaise it was great and we will be back. Edit: removing a star for how we seen the owner act and treat the employees who were doing their best. Usually i leave it up to an owner to run their business but the level and loudness of how the situation was handled made us not want to return which is a shame because we always had good food...
