Palais des Institutions Italiennes — Attraction in arrondissement de Tanger-Medina طنجة المدينة

Palais des Institutions Italiennes, also known historically and commonly as Palais Moulay Hafid, is a wonderful place to explore the grand rooms on several levels, most with beautiful antique tiles, intricate plaster, marble fireplaces and elaborate woodwork on the ceilings in some rooms and Moroccan and crystal chandeliers.

The palace hosts several cultural events each year that include TanJAZZ in September and Salon Printemps du Lives & des Arts de Tanger in April.

The floors are marble or stone, and the palace has very high ceilings throughout its many large and smaller rooms.

There are covered arcades with large arches on its interior on the two main levels, surrounding a huge interior garden and courtyard, which is pleasant and relaxing to explore.

This palace is in need of some restorations, but for the most part, it is well-preserved considering it is quite old.

The lower level houses a popular restaurant called Casa Italia, which is reasonably priced and has a varied selection of well-prepared foods on its menu, including salads, fish, lasagna, spaghetti and pizzas. Beers and wines are also available.

You may sit inside or outside on the pleasant terrace overlooking some large trees in a garden. Limited parking is available. Reservations are not necessary. Credit cards...

One of the very well preserved and functioning public places in Tangier. Been here twice, first for a Book Fair, the second time for Tanjazz, the Jazz Festival in Tangier. Incredible place! I think it used to a Palace of one of the Sultans or the Sultan’s brother, Moulay Hafid. This is where Casa d’Italia...

🔖في سنة 1908 بدأت أشغال بناء قصر مولاي حفيظ بمدينة طنجة. وفي تلك السنة، وبالضبط في 21 غشت، تم عزل السلطان المولى عبد العزيز، وخلفه آنذاك السلطان عبد الحفيظ.

🔖كان القصر في تلك الحقبة خارج أسوار المدينة، أما اليوم فهو يوجد وسط المدينة بالقرب من شارع الحسن الثاني، ومساحته الإجمالية 3 هكتارات و300 متر مربع، والمهندس الذي وضع تصميم القصر فرنسي الأصل، لذا رأى أن يكون هذا القصر ممزوجا بثقافة أوروبية وعربية إسلامية، ومغربية أندلسية موريسكية.

يتكون القصر من طابقين، وبيوت عديدة وكبيرة، إضافة إلى حديقة كبيرة وسط القصر، وتوجد وسط الحديقة نافورة متوسطة الحجم، ولا يخلو القصر من الرخام الإيطالي الرفيع المسمى «كارارا»، نسبة إلى مدينة إيطالية التي تصنع هذا المرمول، وتجده أيضا في بعض الحيطان والدرج والأرض والنافورة، ولا يخلو القصر من الزليج...
