I wish I could give 10 out of 5 stars for Maison de Tanger and its team. The experience that Marjolaine and Zakaria created for me and my husband during our first-ever visit (definitely won’t be our last, inshallah!) exceeded expectations in every way, despite the enthusiastic reviews that encouraged our reservation. If a room is available during your travel dates, don’t hesitate to book! Also, a hotel run by a team affiliated with Canadian music artists? Yeah, it’s just as cool and friendly as it sounds. You’ll be perfectly located within walking distance of the Kasbah, medina, and oceanfront, yet nestled into a blissfully quiet oasis replete with a lush garden, pool, and even a modernly equipped fitness center. Original artworks and endless books throughout the common areas set the tone for this cozy yet sophisticated boutique hotel. Each morning, you’ll be treated to a breakfast buffet featuring seasonal fruits and locally-made pastries, with eggs made to order. Hearing the morning birdsong while you enjoy your first meal of the day in the hotel’s sunroom or garden makes for a truly magical start to your days in Tangier! In the evenings, the shared roof terrace offers a perfect space for enjoying the sunset along with a glass of wine or mint tea. The rooms were well appointed with comfortable beds, strong water pressure, and fast WIFI. While the hotel’s website photos represent the rooms well, we were surprised at how much larger the garden and pool area were than we were expecting. There are so many common areas in which you can engage with other guests, or find a private nook in which to feel as if you’re the only person in the world. Hotel managers Marjolaine and Zakaria and their team are what make Maison de Tanger such an unforgettable experience. They are wonderfully warm and engaging hosts, who will make you feel like dear friends. They certainly did for me and my husband, whose birthday we were celebrating during our visit. They went above-and-beyond to create a magical stay, full of surprises. Thank you, Marjolaine and Zakaria, for your kindness. We look forward to seeing you next time (and we’ll explain the story behind the ‘fairy door’, too)!

Tldr: Great service, incredibly tasteful and comfortable common spaces (indoor living room, beautiful garden and pool, terrace on roof was being renovated but boasted great views of the sea and Medina), cozy room, and perfect location. Steps from the Kasbah and perched on a hill. Unassuming from the outside and even from the reception, but once you enter the living room and the garden, the place captivates you. The subtle frangrance of ripe oranges (they're scattered throughout the common areas), relaxed/soft lounge music you'd find in a hip cafe, tasteful decor that evokes Tangiers kaleidoscopic past (French and Spanish tastes blend with Moroccan and Berber touches), and a most serene garden (the pictures don't do it justice). I needed to do some work while we were there and was able to enjoy the common spaces as my remote office - wifi was fast enough for stable video calls. We stayed in room 2 which was quite small and dimly lit (the grey and red decor didn't help) - but were able to take a look into some of the suites which looked lovely and airy - would recommend if they're available. Excellent breakfast in the morning and stellar service throughout. Staff helped with recommendations and even booked our next hotel/riad in chefchouen. Parking out front was convenient. Perfect for those driving.

There is a reason this hotel is called “home” in French. From the moment you are greeted outside, you are family. This eclectic hotel is warm and inviting. The space is decorated as a home rich with stories and history. We were greeted with delicious mint tea and a snack after being shown our room. The rooftop gave us great vantage of the city and sea. Each room is unique with incredible attention to detail. The bed was one of the most comfortable on our trip so far. The room has heat & air conditioning. We had a private dinner which introduced us to local cuisine and was bursting with flavors. We paired this with a local wine. The common area is a great place to relax and listen to a soothing yet modern playlist. You can even request some Alex Henry Foster music as the owner of the hotel with his band mate. There is a feeling of peace, warmth and history in this oasis. We loved the massage and experienced the Hammam bath on the property for a full relaxing and rejuvenating experience. By far, this has been my favorite home in a foreign land, where I simply left my anxieties at the door. The breakfast is a feast! I miss it already.
