I truly enjoyed my visit to the Whale Museum. My wife and I saw humpback whales in Cabo Pulmo and gray whales in Magdalena Bay during our trip to Baja Sur. The whale museum helped us understand these amazing creatures and answer questions that we had about them.

There are excellent illustrations and specimens that bring the scientific knowledge about whales to life. We were fascinated by the stories, exhibits, and evolution of whales. The museum has skulls, bones, and skeletons of many whale species along with otters, sea lions, manatees, and dolphins. Having these exhibits side by side really highlighted the similarities and differences of marine mammal species. These are intelligent animals that live in incredibly interesting ways. We liked the logical flow of the exhibits and we learned a lot.

We were lucky. On the day of our visit one of the directors was there. He gave us an introduction to the museum and a brief history of whale evolution. We ended up talking to him for awhile and we appreciated his passion and his willingness to answer our questions and share his knowledge.

This isn't a big place. It will be a quick and fun visit for some people. For visitors like us that want to dig deeper there is plenty of depth and interesting information to keep you here for hours. Either way, this is a wonderful organization to support. Beyond running the museum they do important work in conservation and research. We were really happy with our experience. Next time we visit La Paz we will eagerly return to learn more. This was one of the highlights...

Glad to see this private initiative remains active, since the city of La Paz and the State of BCS have not demonstrated their support in what is no doubt the most valuable nature related project in a 1000 miles. Amazing that the city's symbol is a whales' tail and the State tourism depends on whales and sea adventures, BUT neither has a buck nor a neuron to spare on this magnificent effort. the truth is as always shocking. (next my comment from 3 years ago) La Paz, Puerto de Ilusión.... Just when you thought this mega rancho was evolving from a persnickety into an apodictic State capital, arguably the only local place with real educational value, a solid attraction with an all-round positive impression and impact, shuts down. In prior years this prime piece of real estate was a Carlos'n Charlie's and no doubt, considering the rent hike the museum is unable to pay, the next tenant will be a party-loving beer belly embassy and cacophonic...

Wonderful museum to help people learn about whales and other marine animals! Francisco and the other volunteers are so passionate about conservation, and they take the time to share their knowledge with you. There are so many different skeletons, and informative displays about whales, sea lions, sharks, dolphins, turtles and more.

I only wish the government would see the enormous value of their hard work and support them with promotion and to get a bigger space. You’d think that conservation of these animals would be in the government’s best interest given that’s a big part of the attraction for tourists to visit BCS.

If you’re in La Paz, go check out this museum and support the amazing work these volunteers are doing so that they can continue their conservation efforts! Oh and if you’re looking for a unique gift that’s actually made by locals, the cute plush whales for sale are handmade by...
