Decent experience. The tour guide was very friendly and nice.
It was really confusing where to sign in for the tour, and the person at the gate didn't show up until 5 minutes after the scheduled start even though they asked us to show up 15 mins ahead of time. It still didn't start til 10 mins after. (We did the 1pm tour)
It was really hot in the museum/history section. This is an open shaded area but they need to add more fans. Half my tour group had own personal fans, towels and water. Wish we would have known that.
The courtyard area was also not the most relaxing. There were a ton of flies in the courtyard area. They also seemed to not be prepared for the waves of tour groups every hour. It felt like they were struggling to catch up with each wave of tour groups. Maybe it would help if they let people order a bit ahead of time.
We also had to ask several times for "locally-made ice cream" that was supposed to be included. Many of the servers didn't seem to know about it.
If you think this is like the Bicardi tour in Puerto Rico, you will have to adjust your expectations. The prices reflect that, though. I think it was okay for the price, but I would just get the standard guided tour. It wasn't worth the wait for the second drink and we were itching to leave after the first after swatting at all the flies. It was also a struggle getting the included ice cream with the...
Read moreMaybe this place is better if you go there on your own...but I doubt it. We were there as part of a ship tour and frankly were rather underwhelmed by Chobolobo. You get off the bus, get herded into a barn-like structure with some display boards of the history of the place, of Curacao, and their liqueur production. Our guide stopped at exactly two spots in this area, saying very little about what we were seeing, and then finally told us "You can read all this later." Then we were moved quickly to the "samples" area, where you could try three different liqueurs. (They all tasted the same to me.) Then we were hustled into the gift shop, where we were given PLENTY to time to spend money, and then it was back on to the bus.
Curacao was the one stop on our cruise that we were mostly looking forward to visiting, and it turned out to be the most disappointing place we visited. The attitude of the locals everywhere we went seemed to be, "Give us your money and get out." There was a very different feeling here than on Bonaire or Aruba, where we felt welcomed and were treated very well. Chobolobo was just like the rest of the island. We were...
Read moreWe set out as a couple to do this tour, so our experience may vary from those who arrived as part of a group. The registration for the tour was fine, and the tour itself was decent. The constant crowded feel for what is a small property was a bit taxing to be honest. Samples were nice and the 2 drinks provided with our ticket were very good. Overall the experience was worth doing but the overcrowded feel was a bit annoying, otherwise I would rate this tour a 4. Our guide was excellent, he was a 5 for sure as he dear with the varying personalities and languages like a champ!!!
Does this tour give you a feel of the culture? Perhaps from a historical standpoint, but not of the culture today. So it’s not a cultural experience in my opinion. Is this a must-do? Not really, in my opinion, but I must say, the trip there (taxi) exposed us to new areas. When we came out of the tour, we walked over to a local cafe to eat and we then got adventurous and took a local city bus back…so the tour did offer a bit more than we expected.
While I wouldn’t do it again, it was worth doing once and exploring the...
