I recently learned about Sauna van Egmond's announcement regarding a fully vegan menu, only to discover it was an April Fool's joke. As someone deeply concerned about animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and health, I found this "joke" disappointing and tone-deaf. A wellness center should embody principles of health, mindfulness, and respect for all living beings. By mocking veganism—a lifestyle that aligns perfectly with these values—Sauna van Egmond missed an opportunity to lead by example.
Adopting a fully vegan menu would not only align with the ethos of wellness but also contribute positively to the environment and animal welfare. The meat and dairy industries are major contributors to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and water depletion. Transitioning to plant-based offerings could significantly reduce the ecological footprint of your establishment while promoting health-conscious dining for your guests.
Moreover, veganism directly addresses the unnecessary suffering of billions of animals in factory farms and slaughterhouses. By offering cruelty-free options, you could ensure that your guests leave not only physically rejuvenated but also with peace of mind knowing their choices did not contribute to animal suffering.
Wellness resorts worldwide are increasingly embracing plant-based menus as part of a holistic approach to health and sustainability. From reducing risks of chronic diseases to fostering spiritual awareness, vegan diets are a natural fit for establishments like yours.
I urge Sauna van Egmond to reconsider this stance—not as a joke but as a genuine commitment to wellness, compassion, and sustainability. Until then, I cannot support an establishment that trivializes such an...
Read moreI was visiting Haarlem for a long weekend and decided to visit this spa. Even though we made an appointment in advance and specifically requested a female masseuse, on the day, they assigned the female masseuse meant for my massage to someone else. This was very disappointing because I moved around quite a few plans and even booked the longer 1 hour massage because they told us that was the only way to ensure a female masseuse. As a woman I am not comfortable with male masseurs, and despite explaining this to the receptionist on the phone thrice, they still did not honour their promise. This type of poor planning and careless attitude towards clients was shocking and really not something I expected after reading all the glowing reviews. Plus the ploy to get me to upgrade my massage under the guise of ensuring my request would be met seemed downright deceitful and misleading, which left me feeling cheated. The non chalant manner in which the staff handled the mix up was also not very respectful so all in all, the service was very poor. I would recommend new visitors to choose from one of the other massage places around the city with a better work ethic and more organized...
Read moreI have read about Sauna Van Egmond before visiting and the positive reviews are true indeed.
In terms of location, by public transport it is easily accessible by taking a Bus for two stops at Haarlem station. The Sauna is located in a cosy nice neighbourhood in Egmondstraat. During my time in the Netherlands, I visited this Sauna twice as the facilities are really nice and the receptionist is friendly.
They have a large swimming pool, several smaller cold pools, different themes of sauna through the facility. Within the compound, there is also a restaurant, and level 2 & 3 with resting area for people who would like to take a break or rest. One of the staff also came around with a tray of nuggets to offer to the sauna users. I hope to visit your sauna again next time when I am in the Netherlands . Please keep up the positive customer service and good maintenance...
