One of my favorite reserves in central Auckland for a short bush walk. It's not a loop and have to come back the same way you walk, adding to 4 kms return. Entrance to the walkway starts from the back of the metro football field. A hidden treasure in the middle of the city, unexplored by tourists and hence not much crowded. You'll see few locals for jogging or cycling. Ten minutes through the walk you'll see the oakley creek fall, though nothing exciting about it. However, considering it's the only water fall in Auckland city, it's worth visiting. Otherwise it's a beautiful serene walk, with lots of trees and shades. Suits all age groups, even small kids. Paths are well tracked, maintained and signs provided to lead you. No public toilets in the vicinity btw. It's open 24 hours but suggest not to walk in the dark as it's a secluded place.

Oakley Creek Walkway has the potential to be a fantastic outdoor hangout spot, offering a serene and peaceful environment with the soothing sounds of the stream. It's a great place to unwind and enjoy nature. However, the walkway is unfortunately not well-maintained. Trash is scattered along the paths, detracting from the otherwise tranquil atmosphere. Some sections of the walkway are damaged, and certain paths are broken, making them difficult to navigate. Additionally, many of the informational signs have been vandalized, which further diminishes the experience. With better upkeep, this could truly be a lovely spot for a relaxing day outdoors.

A hidden secret of auckland right in the CBD. Multiple ways to head to the beautiful waterfall where you don't even realize there are cars surrounding you. You can walk there with your dogs and kids and family and love it. Well looked after everyone and you often see lots of people relaxing watching the water. A must see in auckland

We checked this out on December 30th 2024. This used to be a hidden Avondale treasure for many years, but now it’s ruined, perhaps permanently, don’t bother checking it out, it’s a disgrace & the Auckland Council is doing nothing to repair the damage done by the recent weather events, it’s a embarrassment! Parts of the raised wooden Track & paths have been washed away due to severe flooding & huge trees have roots exposed, it’s unbelievable that some haven’t toppled over, the Falls themselves have sustained permanent damage, there’s filth & rubbish & litter scattered all around by lazy people, it’s a utter disgrace!...
