Stayed in a cabin for a few nights before and after a kayak trip in the Bay of islands.|The cabin was big and clean and had chairs and a picnic table overlooking the Bay. We got a lot of great bird pictures and videos from right in front of our cabin. ||The two kitchens are big but they really need to clean the fridges out often. There were at least two jugs of milk 3 weeks past their expiry date, open packs of meat past their dates, and a shrink wrapped frozen pizza that was bulging badly-this only happens due to decomposition gases. This is a public health hazard. They tell people to label and date their food but they donโt give labels or pens for that purpose so nobody does it, so for most food you canโt tell how long itโs been there. They need to provide a way to label food and then clean the fridges out as a part of daily cleaning and take everything that isn't labeled and put it in a free bin or throw it out. This is what other similar places do and people quickly comply when it's enforced. ||Since they deal with so many campers and travelers it would also help to have a freezer for people with frozen food and for freezing cooler packs. Enforcing labelling would keep it from filling up with left-behind cooler packs and food.||They also may have some kind of security problem with their computers. I received a number of phishing messages via the booking.com messaging app purporting to be from this place demanding that I send credit card information and over a month after staying there I'm still getting email about this issue. I don't think itโs booking.comโs fault because I booked with Booking.com for many other accommodations on this trip, and I have never heard from any of them except this one about any issue remotely like this.|Because of this issue I couldn't trust their wifi either and used my cellular data for any sensitive...
ย ย ย Read moreFirst time camping here, overall great experience as the facilities provided were always clean, great amenities. The campsite itself was accessible, easy to find and clean. Only thing that was unpleasant was on the day of check in, one of the receptionist were very offhand with one of the people staying on my camp site. The receptionist was really upset and angry that she had to show one of the attendees at my camp where our site was, she told her that she should already know because people from our camp had already checked in (we didnt have our phones as we were setting up tents etc) I just think its a very minor question to make a guest feel unwelcome or like its a hassle to just check what site there on or to show them a map. We had 3 witnesses who had the same recollection of how rude and offhand this receptionist was. (Maybe she was just having a bad day). Other than that - great camp site, close to everything you need like supermarkets, gas...
ย ย ย Read moreI am being very generous giving a one star rating. If my other half was filling this in he said he would find it hard to even give them the one star as this was the most expensive campground we stayed at and conditions, the stay etc., leave much to be desired. Got charge quite a bit extra for asking to move over just one more space because the tree was blocking our tv reception. Their excuse was because of view when there was no difference of the view of the mud flats. Rip off. Toilets are in desperate need of attention. Grotty stained pans and told the menโs is disgusting. Lock on old doors falling off and showers are so old. Staff at counter not over friendly either. We didnโt have much sleep over the three nights as it was noisy. No camp rules about keeping noise down after a certain time. Third night had enough and at 1.30am had to yell to noisy campers to be quiet. We went on and stayed at Ruakaka and Mangawhai Heads and gladly give...
