The Tannery is a stylish and unique retail hub in Woolston, Christchurch, set within beautifully restored 19th-century industrial buildings on the banks of the Heathcote River. This boutique shopping emporium features a wide range of owner-operated shops, covering fashion, gifts, homewares, crafts, and dining, with a strong emphasis on quality, ethical purchases, and supporting local artisans. We were drawn to The Tannery’s striking architecture-ornate Victorian-style facades and a grand red brick atrium that create a welcoming, upscale atmosphere. The complex is more than just a shopping destination; it’s a hub for creativity and hospitality, complete with cafés, a microbrewery, a movie theatre, yoga studio, and event spaces suitable for everything from intimate gatherings to weddings. The thoughtfully curated mix of stores and eateries means there’s something for everyone, from fashion lovers and foodies to families and event planners. Although prices can be a bit high, the quality and uniqueness of the offerings-combined with the stunning setting-make The Tannery a must-visit in...
Read moreIt's a unusual place which has basically unique stores. 'Hapa' is amazing most of the items are made in - NZ that alone would say superior quality and worthy of your attention and support. You can access great vitamins and herbs at the 'Apothecary' , calm, quiet 'Beauty Therapy' sanctuary, a worthy book 📖❤store - I manage to get lost in here for at least an hour each time ⏲️and NEVER come out empty handed ✋, gifts 🎁in other boutique stores, 'Penny Black' café worthy of their scrumptious food and polite, efficient service 😀 Never leave without crossing the carpark to the shops on the sidewalk within the carpark area. A must see for superb quality handmade at wonderful prices is the ' Weaving' and 'Felt' shore old fashioned manners with service in here. Read moreBeautiful Shopping centre. Im a big fan of boat shoes and no socks. My chums have started to call me 'Mister No-Socks' as I never have them on, what cards they are. So here I come, entering this fabulous establishment and what do I see but an entire shop dedicated to No Socks and Boat Shoes. Father would have twirled had he seen this. There's a shop that claims to be a Generalist Forager! I had no idea what this was and am now pleasently surprised to find out that it means little but gives you a sensation of wondermeant and fills the empty feelings you have when looking at people less advantaged than yourself. I will warn you they have one of those trendy second hand shops that sell things after people have worn them. Not my cup of tea but thrift is "cool" and maybe one day I'll buy second hand Prada but not today Satan. I bought some nice smelling sticks wrapped in a cloth and an $400- pair of jeans - BARGAINS! See you there soon....
