Very nice and beautifully maintained reserve, almost hidden from the main road. The entrance is via old north road, orewa. The Kauri trees present here are a marvel and a wonder in themselves. To look at the 800 years old kauri tree is to literally transport oneself into the past and imagining how things would have been when this tree was younger. The walk is well maintained with raised boardwalks and stairs too. There are longer walks in the reserve, but the main one is approx 25 mins loop. Very easily accessible by road and some on street parking spaces are available ahead on the road. A must visit for any nature enthusiast and anyone looking to get some peace from the...

A beautiful cool spot for a walk on a hot day. We took our 2 and 4 year old and they loved this track, but they are very keen walkers - there are a lot of stairs. No picnic spots that we could see. I would vote this place 5 stars but unfortunately (as with many of Auckland's best walking tracks) a large portion of the track was closed due to Kauri dieback - this included the 'Lookout Track' (which I'm sure would have made the stairs worthwhile!) Not a big area - we covered it (return) in about 40 minutes, walking at preschooler pace. Again, if the Lookout Track were open... but it isn't. Still...

I enjoyed a pleasant shaded walk through this lovely bush reserve on a hot sunny day in February. As others have commented, there are a lot of steps, but I enjoyed the workout! Part of the track was closed, so I’m looking forward to coming back at a later date to complete the walk. Was a bit disappointed at the lack of bird life, but there were...

So beautiful... Due to Kauri Dieback only 2 entrances are open and you have to brush and disinfect your shoes before entering or exiting. Also, the lookout track is closed but the loop track remains open/the path from entrance to other entrance (hillcrest rd to old north rd). Stay on the path/boardwalk to save the Kauri.
