We spent a total of four nights on two separate occasions at this wonderful location in Unit #9 which was right on the beachfront; falling asleep each night to the lovely sound of soft waves, which the following week, became stormy waves.|This unit was extremely clean, everything worked and the small kitchenette was very functional and had everything that we needed, because we only dined out once where there are many, many restaurants within 2-3 walking blocks.|Our hosts Trina and Derek offered us the best service and hospitality, especially when it was discovered that we had inadvertently left behind at the Auckland International Airport one of our carry-on bags. There were numerous calls to Air N.Z. which tied up their business phone line for a few hours trying to locate our missing bag, And this was in addition to being served complimentary tea along with freshly baked cookies while we were trying to sort out our missing bag. Mush later Trina kindly offered to take us back to the Airport over an hour drive away, both ways. We did however have a happy ending when our bag was found in Lost Property. it had landed there only 5 minutes before we showed up to claim it. The bag had taken its own journey of over 5 hrs to reach Lost Property where we showed up in time to claim it from our 6:am arrival that same morning.|Long story short, we are ever grateful to have had an extremely pleasant stay at the|Edgewater Motel, ideally situated near the Orewa Village, and the kindness of Management who provided us with what we consider the greatest of New Zealand hospitality, which...
Read moreWe stayed for two nights in room 15. When we entered our studio unit we were immediately confronted with a overwhelming strong putrid damp smell. The room was very outdated. The bathroom had no window in it and no ventilation extraction fan. The door was an open louvre door much the same as you would have on a pantry. The interior overall needs a complete makeover with the kitchen area very outdated and when looking at all the buildings from the outside they all need a lot of maintenance done. The cost was 165/night which I think is over priced, even though the complex is located right next to the beach and short walk to the shops. After reading reviews about this motel and especially about room 15 it is apparent that the owners or managers are just clipping the ticket and not putting anything back into the maintenance side of things. This motel gave us the worst experience we have ever had when traveling around...
Read moreIt was ok for an overnight stay but no longer. Desperately in serious need of updating. Our room was very musty and run down with grubby skirting, rotting boards etc. Spare bedding in cupboard was musty and un useable. Hadnt been aired in some time. We unpacked our food. Went out and came back to find Ants swarming all over the bench. They got into our stuff and ruined it. The bug spray thoughtfully provided in the kitchen came in handy but sort of indicates this is a regular occurrence. Reserve behind the motel was nice in daylight hours. Nighttime however, attracted drunken fighting idiots who proceeded to swear and throw bottles around at 2am, waking us all up. For what it was, it was extremely pricey. That being said. *Owners were nice folks. *It's a 30 second walk to the beach *it's a 10 minute walk to town *We were only passing through so I gave it 3 stars because I have stayed in...
