Spoonful Catering — Attraction in North Island

Spoonful catered a ‘major’ birthday dinner for seventeen people at my home in February 2019. Everything was superb and I give them five stars!

I had first talked to them about vague preferences for food for a birthday dinner at the end of December 2018. Spoonful quickly came back with a quote and then a delicious menu: The entree was house-made salmon gravadlax, pickled beets, horseradish crème fraîche and baby watercress. The main was parmesan and parsley crusted New Zealand lamb rack (superbly tender) on kumera rösti, baby carrots and wilted spinach, with a red wine and truffle oil jus. We brought in a cake, and they suggested and then supplied, candied Italian oranges and vanilla mascarpone cream. The dinner was totally delicious and our friends loved it as much as we did. Dan provided a vegetarian entree and main to the same superb standard for one friend. He organised that the dinner was gluten free and made sure the one GF person was served rack of lamb without the Parmesan and parsley. There is a sliding door between the dining room and kitchen, but I was unaware of any talk or noise. All serving of food, taking plates away, was done calmly and quietly. For example I did not even notice this was happening.

Dan had come to meet with us to discuss logistics well prior to the dinner.

Dan is a total professional and a very nice person. As I said, absolutely five stars. Spoonful are highly recommended.

Dan catered our wedding in in Wellington in July and we honestly couldn’t recommend him highly enough.

Together with his team at Spoonful -- especially the wait staff who totally nailed it -- he helped made the day and night even better than what we had hoped for.

Most importantly the food was just incredible -- there’s been a seemingly endless stream of compliments with everyone wondering how were they able to cook food that good for so many people.

Through the coronavirus situation this year our plans changed three or four times with short notice. Dan was not only flexible with all the last minute changes, but he was also very generous with his time, going above and beyond in terms of emails, phone calls and zoom chats to ensure we had the best wedding possible.

This included adjustments to the scale of the event, completely re-doing the menu, the staffing requirements and the venue all within a couple of weeks - and with absolutely no stress at all.

One other thing that probably summed up the whole experience with Dan (and Spoonful): at the very end of the night, well after he and the team had packed up, we made a last minute request for a few stronger drinks that we hadn’t talked about previously and within about 20 minutes they had it sorted - even driving to get bits and pieces they didn’t...

I very rarely write reviews but I have to tell the world about Dan and how fabulous Spoonful Catering is. Dan catered for our small wedding dinner and we were blown away by how he and his wonderful staff made the evening even more perfect by being so attentive, so professional, and so calm. The food was fabulous too of course 😊 but it really was how they just went about preparing the dinner whilst also looking after us all with such courtesy. We were blessed with divine weather, an outstanding celebrant and photographer and Dan just topped it all off. My only concern is I’ll never be able to hire him again…he will be in...
