Wine tasting: Our guide from Coast to Coast Tours, Peter-John, loves his country and said he is very glad that his country is open to tourism again. He was very professional and shared some of the history of New Zealand, pointed out housing areas as we left the city of Aukland, and I could tell he loves the countryside best. He took us to several wineries. The wine country here is a lot like we remember Sonoma County in the 80s, personal and welcoming. He introduced us to the staff, who spent quite a bit of time talking about the different wines and sharing their knowledge and love of this industry and the wines. My husband and I have been traveling and working at wineries for the last 3 and a half years and we have rarely had such an amazing experience at a cellar door. Their wines are lovely all around, perhaps particularly appealing to our palates. We’re a bit picky with our Pinots but their Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir was beautiful, full and well balanced. The lady who conducted the tasting was really friendly, informative, and professional.
