For many years I have been an aficionado of Indian cuisine and as well as visiting many Indian restaurants, have developed my Indian cooking skills to a level where it is not unusual, sadly, to find that mine are equal to or better than the restaurant.
I have visited all three of the Indian Restaurant we have in Kumeu, one once but never again, the other regularly and last night, Sangam for the first time. I had been a regular attender when they first opened in Kumeu occupying the old Fergusson's Trading Shed, (now The Fireplace) but as the attention, space and time available there for the Indian Cuisine was reduced, relocated and finally overpowered, I ceased attending. Accordingly, when "She who must be obeyed" insisted on attending Sangam for a wedding anniversary, I was reluctant and attended with apprehensions.
The venue was superior and catering for 50, is not a large "cavern like" experience. The food level I clearly admit to never being able to attain and the friendliness and attentions from the staff, very good. The menu is extensive , but not overpowering and children and vegetarians are catered for. In our case, two bottles of BYO wine, two entrées, two mains ,two types of bread and a raita graced our table for less than $80.

Read moreI’m not one to write a bad review, but this warrants one for future patrons. 28th of Jan 2024, myself and others dined in the Sangham Indian restaurant- an employee (Caucasian lady, 50-60 years) who was taking our order was impatient, rushing us with passive aggressiveness by her body language, and tone (her body language yelled, ‘hurry up’) despite us each taking approx 10-20 seconds to verbalise our order.
Moreover, she made disrespectful remarks about one of our group members who were discussing with another patron what to get (she was talking over them/hurrying them up), stating, "They don't listen, do they? They're like my three sons." When our food was ready, she placed the dishes on our table with intentional force, creating loud and unsettling noises. This made us feel as if we had annoyed her and we felt like we couldn’t make further orders without experiencing this again.
We in return were polite, patient, and quiet. At the very least, we expect professionalism, as it goes a long way. We will not be recommending this establishment to...
Read moreAlthough the food was delicious, unfortunately, the overall experience was marred by disappointing customer service. Despite clearly specifying my preference for a 'vegetarian meal,' I received a chicken masala in my order by mistake. Planning to enjoy it the next day, I realized the error and promptly called the restaurant to request a replacement. However, to my dismay, the receptionist informed me that the manager denied my request, citing that 'they can't sell it.'
Regrettably, this incident marks my second and final time patronizing this establishment. It's disheartening to witness such a lack of understanding and willingness to accommodate a simple mistake. I believe that treating customers with respect and promptly addressing issues is crucial to retaining their loyalty. Alas, it seems they have not grasped this essential principle, and as a result, they have lost me as a customer. Customer culture needs improvement, no issues with the...
