How would you feel if you were stranded on top of a mountain with 3 kids and the bus that was supposed to pick you up never shows up? That was our experience 2 days ago at the Vøringsfossen Waterfall Express. We paid $200 for a bus ride to the fall, a 25 min trip from our ferry terminal. After seeing the waterfall we were supposed to be picked up at 13:40. We waited for the driver to pick us up and take us back to the ferry and HE DID NOT SHOW UP. We were the only passengers. No one got in touch with us, there was no phone number to call anywhere on the site, and no one responded to the customer service chat (only automated robot response asking for our email address, no human). We knew if we missed our ferry, we are STRANDED FOR THE NIGHT as our car was 3 hours away.
We started walking down the mountain to the main road, trying to stop cars and ask for help but cars either did not stop or drove in the other direction. Can you imagine the stress of the situation, with 3 children? Eventually, my wife was able to hitchhike with a nice old couple leaving the rest of us by the side of the road. Despite the response from the vendor below - when we split up and hitchhiked, there was still no response on chat, or communication from the company, 40 minutes after scheduled pickup time, leaving us no choice.
Approx 45 min after scheduled departure, the driver arrived with another bus and said the electric bus broke down. He drove us back UP the mountain as he had another group, and we had to wait for them arriving to the ferry within a minute of departure.
This company could have avoided the 1 star review if they had sent a taxi to pick us up, and apologize properly, and refund our fare. They did non of that and said “technical problem can occur”.
Avoid at all costs. This was a total nightmare and worst...
Read moreI recently had a very bad experience with this tour company and cannot recommend them. The tour started with a bus departure at 8:30am. We pulled up to the bus station at exactly 8:30 (very unfortunately, the local taxi 07000 we pre-booked canceled on us at exactly when we were supposed to be picked up, so I don't recommend them either) and there was no bus at the platform, nor did we see one pulling out of the exit where our Uber had entered the lot. We were looking. It was then I discovered that there was no phone number to reach a human being in case of emergency. I emailed the only email address I had for the company and discovered on my own that there was a 9:10 bus that we could take and still catch the ferry and 2nd leg of the tour. After doing some further Googling, it was quite obvious that this tour company cobbled together a bunch of public transit to create this "tour" that was completely self-guided. There is no point in booking a tour through them as you can do it yourself, especially seeing as there is zero support (one employee or chatbot did respond to my email after over half an hour and was of no help).
This was the first tour that we attempted to take in Norway, and it quickly became obvious that the bus departure without us was an anomaly Every other bus we took knew our name and noted the # in our party. The drivers didn't leave anyone behind. This experience was extremely disappointing, you should definitely just book the various transit yourself, or make sure you book through a company that at least provides a phone number. We flushed over 2800NOK down the toilet. The same self-guided tour through the tourist office...
Read moreIt is amazing to say we've hiked a glacier in Norway! All of the guides were super friendly and knowledgable. But, this hike was much more strenuous than the description lead us to believe. The hike was described as suitable for everyone ages 10 and up. It began with a hefty hike up the mountain next to the ski slope. At the top, we moved over to the glacier, but because it was covered in snow, it was difficult to appreciate that it was a glacier. We hiked down to a bit of blue ice and it was cool to experience the feel of a glacier; however, the hike back up was again very strenuous and technical. This time, we needed to use our ice axes, stabbed into the snow, for support as the incline was very steep. Then we climbed through a small waterfall and up and over the adjacent rocks. There is no doubt it was a difficult climb for everyone in our group, all of whom are in good physical shape. I would definitely not recommend this for anyone with a fear of heights. Our ten year old was able to make the hike, but he is a very athletic, capable almost 11 year old and was struggling at the top of the first climb and really struggling by the time we headed down - I would not recommend this for ten year olds. A better description is needed in the advertisement to allow people to make a more informed decision as to whether this is appropriate for...
