I recently visited Fort Pilar and was blown away by the rich history and stunning architecture of this landmark. The entrance fee was reasonable and well worth it for the experience. The fort itself is beautifully preserved and offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. The exhibits inside were informative and well-presented, providing valuable insights into the area's history and culture. Additionally, the nearby basilica is a solemn and peaceful place to practice your roman catholic faith. The serene atmosphere and beautiful architecture make it a perfect place for reflection and prayer. I also appreciated the picturesque surroundings, including the stunning view of the sea. All in all, Fort Pilar and the nearby basilica are must-see destinations for anyone interested in history, culture, and architecture, or for those seeking a serene place to practice their faith.

Also called as the Real Fuerte de Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza (Royal Fort of Our Lady of the Pillar of Saragossa), Fort Pilar Shrine is an outdoor Roman Catholic Marian shrine located just outside the Fort Pilar museum. The wall is dedicated to Our Lady of the Pillar, the patroness of Zamboanga City. The faithfuls are allowed to offer and pray to the statute of Jesus located at the center of the wall. A closer look at the right side of the statute of Jesus is a relic of St. Charles of Borromeo, the patron saint of catechists, catechumens, seminarians, art and learnings. At the left side of the entrance is for lighting candles. Candles of different colors and meanings can be bought outside the shrine.

A well-preserved historic landmark in Zamboanga, with a cool outdoor church! Went there last year (photos were also from April 2021), back when restrictions were still pretty high due to COVID. There were few tourist attractions open and this place was one of them. There's an art exhibition when we visited, filled with works by local artists. I wish there were more activities and displays (perhaps more historic and archival artifacts and art from the area?) but we enjoyed our time nonetheless. The church is amazing! Although I can imagine it being unbearably hot to hold masses during the summer, but cool concept! No roofs, just the open air. Would love to visit again.

A place of worship for Catholics. A peaceful refuge for others. This was a fort built by the Spaniards in the late 1900s, to fend off pirates and enemies. The legend says that a long time ago, a tsunami was about to hit the nearby shore in which a community of nomads, Muslims and Christians lived. And they said a woman and a child was playing by the shore, when the tsunami was visibly getting nearer, the child raised his hand and the big waves just crashed and mellowed down. And up to this day, even Muslims and nomads come here to light some candles. This is the real beauty of my city, there's unity in our diversity.

Last weekend was my first time to stroll in Zamboanga City. From the City Hall of Zamboanga, I just walked going to the Port Pilar Shrine for me to explore the area and I was able to see some familar company names and government regional offices. After walking for about 10-15mins, I arrived at the National Museum of Port Pilar however the Museum was partially closed (as of this writing) for renovation. Then I went to The Port Pilar Shrine and prayed. Afterwards, I bought some souvenirs - shirt and ref magnets- from Zamboanga to a souvenir shop located right next to the Shrine.
