If you want to avoid the sun's heat, shop in a shop with fans around to cool off but still get the exact same items all under one roof, Plaza 28 in Downtown Cancun is what you need. No need to bargain here because all are fixed priced items labelled on them. No need to carry cash as they accept credit cards and give you a receipt and complete invoice with Tax ID number, so it is safe to shop here. This is a big roof that has jewellery, mexican made items, souvenirs, pharmacy, tequila and restaurant all in one. Folks here welcome you as you enter and al though they talk to keep you comfortable to shop, they aren't annoying as people say in the other markets like Mercado 28 or the Flea market(where you do everything on your own from bargaining to finding shops). So, if you like fixed prices, hassle-free shopping, air-conditioned shopping, this is the place to look for.

Sadly it's such a competitive market when tourists come around the locals flock & haggle & it tends to be too much. The 1st store we stopped at filled us with tequila & then tries to sell me something for $125. I knew it was way too much & they were very sweet but an hr into shopping I found a nice Cuban guy who had what I wanted & didn't jack the price he was honest & I gave him $35 plus $5 for himself for being kind & not pushy. I've been to markets around the world & its so sad to see it this way. I appreciated the vendors who just said hello & come look. I didn't enjoy the ones who yelled or said come on its my turn. It's so competitive for the same items. I know it's a rat race but i was over it after 2hrs. Now lunch. Lunch was delicious in the center court. Red tablecloth tables.

If you are looking for affordable Souvenirs make sure you walk to the right of this store to the REAL Mercado 28! This is were the Ado Bus dropped us off. And the people in this store claimed that they were the only Mercado. I asked several employees and they all told me the same thing. But then I saw the Elotero/Corn guy outside and he told me to walk 2 blocks south and that's were the Real Mercado 28 was! So the 5 stars is for the Mercado 28 Not Plaza 28! You will find pretty affordable Souvenirs in El Mercado for as low as $10 pesos! That's like $.50 cents US dollars! What can beat that!? FYI - The security person at the Hotel that I stayed, told me about Mercado 28.

Huge, you can get here almost anything. The items are well displayed, wide selection, easy to browse through and find what you are looking for. The items all have price labels, but they are highly negotiable - the price flexibility also depends on the volume you purchase and your means of payment. Do take advantage of the tequilla and mezcal tasting! They have some of the best bottles open for tasting. We also tried the restaurant. Prices are not the lowest, but the portions were very big! See photos for temptation.

Lovely market if you are looking for Mexican crafts and silver, just be careful because they sometimes mix the local items with others, double check. Also prices are higher if you speak in English or ask in dollars. There is a lot of competition amongst the different shops. I still recommend the visit and encourage you to buy there instead of the expensive souvenir shops near the hotel….you will be helping the locals. I specially loved the quality of the Mexican tablecloths and some of the silver and ceramics.

Good place to buy souvenirs an touristic things. Prices are definitely “tourist pricing” but you should bargain at shops and if you are not sure, go around and ask because the prices definitely vary. I have gotten between 15 USD to 85 USD for the same exact product and they do take USD at most stores. We talked to some locals and if you want to see more local and authentic Mexican markets, Market 23 might be a better experience. For tourist magnets and decor, Market 28 has everything you need.
