The Elvas Military Museum emerged as a result of the Portuguese Army reorganization in 2006 and occupies the premises of the former Infantry Regiment Nº8 designated "Quartéis do Casarão" [Saint Domingos Convent (13th Century)].

The Elvas Military Museum occupies a total of 150.000 m2 and a covered area of 14.000 m2. Currently, the exhibit covered area is beyond 3.500 m2.

The museum was officially opened on October 19, 2009, and it was integrated into the Portuguese Museum Network (Rede Portuguesa de Museus - DGPC) in 2014.

This place was quite the surprise! Looks very unassuming from the outside but it is actually filled with just an overabundance of military artifacts and perhaps the largest collection of military vehicles I have been able to see and touch and in person! An absolute pleasure for any military geek and definitely recommended for any military historians as well, and definitely worth the money at 3...

Were greeted by a soldier and directed to the ticket office. Another soldier was waiting for us and took us to the first part of museum, where we were told by hand signals no photographs. At first there were explanations in English but unfortunately it was not consistent. Throughout the whole time a soldier was walking up and down watching us. It made us feel a little...
