An excellent hotel in the best location of Funchal is well equipped with all the facilities you could think of. I had the sea view deluxe room with balcony on the top floor in the original part of the hotel where Sir Winston Churchill stayed with his wife back then. I'm extremely happy with my room! My room has a stunning view of the sea and harbour. The room is very spacious, with enough closet space to hang all my clothes and the storage space for 2 suitcases. The pillow and bed are extremely comfortable. The air conditioning is excellent but there can be a bit of noise which I turn it off during the night when I go to bed. Separate room for shower and toilet, which I am very pleased with. No standing shower but bath tub, which might not be easier for elderly I guess. But I'm very happy with it. Amenities are Aqua Di Parma and slippers, bathrobes, and blankets are also provided. Minibar equipped with juice, still and sparkling water, as well as coke, sprite. They are all complimentary and topped up daily. Great turn down service which I am very happy with. I had a quick bite on my first night on the balcony part as the other 2 restaurants were fully booked. Pasta was good, I tried a few cocktails which were all very well made. There are 2 separate pools which I didn't use. Sunbeds are next to the pool. There's also a spa, tennis court, and gym facilities which I used a few times during my stay. The gym is well equipped for a great workout overlooking the sea. The breakfast buffet is very extensive as well as a la cart menu but I am not someone who eats much in the morning. I only went down there twice during my stay but everything I had was well prepared. Excellent service from all the front desks as well as the porters. My luggage was taken down prior to checking out. Complementary still water is supplied daily on your way out from the hotel which is an excellent touch. I ordered the room service twice but be aware that although they have an All Day Dining room service menu but they won't be able to prepare anything but sandwiches and crisps if you call them after 11pm which I was a bit confused with. My understanding this should be 24 hours. Victor, the front desk manager is extremely friendly, and helpful when I expressed that I wanted to extend my stay with one additional night in the same room. He was willing to block the room on their system so that I can contact BA to arrange the rest. Highly recommended hotel to stay while visiting Madeira.

Here’s the revised review: A Five-Star Oasis of Comfort and Elegance at Reid’s Palace During a period marked by uncertainty and financial instability, I had the privilege of staying at Reid’s Palace in Madeira, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. As a jet-setter, I’ve visited many five-star hotels, but few have matched the unique blend of luxury and protection I found here. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and attentiveness, treated like royalty in every interaction. The staff, attentive to the smallest detail, ensured that my needs were anticipated and met before I even voiced them. I felt protected, almost like a king within the sanctuary of the palace walls, which was a priceless feeling during such a turbulent time. The ambiance of the palace exudes elegance and sophistication, with an atmosphere that’s both historic and refreshingly modern. Every space, from the opulent suites to the inviting lounge areas, reflects meticulous attention to detail. The culinary experiences were another highlight—impeccable flavors that speak to the best of Madeira’s local cuisine, artfully prepared to perfection. Reid’s Palace is more than just a place to stay; it’s a refuge for the soul, offering not only physical luxury but a sense of tranquility and security that’s simply priceless. This is a destination for anyone seeking an outstanding, five-star experience with unmatched hospitality and an environment that allows you to feel truly protected and at peace. Thank you, Reid’s Palace, for making my stay unforgettable. I look forward to returning. Dr. Gabriel Martinez-Diaz

Just came back from a 8 day Holiday at Reid's Palace in Madeira. My wife and I were very sad to leave and are looking forward to coming back next year. Both the Hotel and the whole Island are magical places. Reid's Palace is an institution, not only in Madeira, but worldwide, and you can breathe this magic every second you spend there. Despite the age, the Hotel is amazingly mantained, and you wouldn't want it to be modern anyways, because the charme and the warmth it exhales, are its absolute strenghts. The service is brilliant, every single staff member is highly trained and they carry out their duties with the utmost professionalism, making all your whishes come true. The position of the Hotel is dramatically spectacular, and the Gardens surrounding it are of astonishing beauty. If it wasn't for the perfectly working WIFI and the fact that you spend most of your time fooling around on your Iphone, you could be anywhere in time... and an enchanted time on top of it. There are few Hotels like this left in the world, making Reid's Palace an absolute must on the bucket list of every aesthete and every aficionado of heritage, culture and history. Big Kudos to the team at the Spa: you made our holiday even more fantastic. No point in attaching any pictures to this review. What you'll experience in real life at Reid's is a thousand time better than any picture of it you'll ever see. Well done Reid's. You biased us forever ;)

We decided to spend the last few days of our holiday at a luxurious resort, and the Belmond Reid’s Palace exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking views from our room, overlooking the serene expanse of the sea and the stunning botanical gardens that surround the property. It felt like stepping into paradise. What truly made our stay unforgettable was the meticulous attention to detail—every aspect of the resort was flawlessly maintained, and the staff delivered impeccable service. The spa was an absolute highlight, providing a serene and rejuvenating experience. A special shoutout to the cocktail bar, which is absolutely amazing. If you visit, be sure to try their signature cocktail named after Churchill—it’s an unforgettable treat and adds a touch of history to the experience. A heartfelt thank you to the General Manager, Patricia, whose warm hospitality and dedication ensured our stay was nothing short of perfection. She went above and beyond to make everything extraordinary. Belmond Reid’s Palace is a haven of luxury, elegance, and tranquility. The combination of the lush botanical gardens, peaceful ocean views, and world-class amenities makes this place truly magical. We will treasure these memories and cannot wait to return. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an exceptional escape!

I finally made it here for afternoon tea on my second visit. Highly recommend booking in advance which is very easy via their website. It also makes it easy to inform them of any food allergies. I would have given this experience 5 stars had they had a better welcome system. When you arrive at the hotel you’re asked to take a seat in a lounge where someone comes to check you in then seats you at your table. We arrived bright and early, maybe the third group, yet because the woman doing the checking in chose to ignore us, we were pretty much the last to be seated. Had I not called her over, I guess we’d still be sat there waiting. Edit to add after thinking about this further: I don’t know why she ignored us but none of the reasons I can think of are good ones. Did she think we didn’t look like any of the names on her list? Did she assume we hadn’t booked? Does she just unconsciously / consciously not acknowledge people of colour? Because she definitely saw us and chose not to engage. Anyway, the rest of the team and service thankfully was great and made us forget the poor welcome (for the time being). The food is simple but good and the tea is tasty, of which they are very generous. The views are stunning even on a cloudy day and you’re able to take a walk in the gardens (they have 8acres of land) if you wish.
