Casino da Madeira — Attraction in Funchal

Has potential but still missing a full casino experience. Staff wasn't necessarily excited to make you spend money. they just do, which sux. I've experienced many casinos in my travels. Staff could be more engaging and happier, I would have taken out more money for sure if so. The respond from the lady was, well your in Portugal, which is sad because I am Madeirance and I could see why tourists won't like it here. Some staff do have a chip in there shoulder (pun intended) but some others were nicer.

night club wise, a guy being rude to a woman and harassing her, the Staff acknowledged but didn't do anything, a girl bumped into a guy, he kinda kicked her and security did nothing. I work night life for 20 years, has alot of potential but a lot of little things needed and this place would have been Top. Dirty toilets. All the time. Difficult to breathe under the cloud of cigarette filled smoke. They continue to insist that smokers are more important than non-smokers and operate their air-conditioning at minimum to, dare I say it, save money! So oftentimes it just gets hot as well. Staff are belligerent and avoid customer contact as much as possible. There is bar tender called Antonio there where it is more likely you would yet can audience with the pope than get service from him. He is so deliberately slow. A Russian friend told me the way they treat customers reminded him of communist Russia back in the day. The worst of-course are the slot machines: so tight on the odds of winning even a miserly €10. Most people playing there are the addicts. No fun. Despite all the crappy ads in their marketing this is not the entertainment hub of Madeira. I have played in several Casinos in various countries over the years, so I was excited to hear there was one in Funchal. I have to summarize the experience as "ok-ish". The Casino is rather small and focuses on slot machines. That aspect itself is fine, just that the variery of slots is limited, especially their choice of modern day machines. There are no "modern-day" vegas slots ro be found, mostly an older selection of digital slots. I also found it annoying that there was always a few locals around who decided to play 5 machines at the same time, thereby blocking the 4 slots they were not attending to with chairs. That is not expect from a casino where there is a squad of security staff "patrolling" the slots with serious faces all the time.
