Rio Gilão — Attraction in Tavira

We enjoyed the Rio Gilão everyday on our short break Tavira, 17th t0 21st may 2024. Beautiful in the early morning and evening sunlight the river is tidal to 3m and numerous fish can be seen from the Roman bridge. It is such a shame that the river is badly effected by polution, fecal waste is evident on the whole of the Tavira strech, to the extent that the river bed is coated in a grey sludge and the muscle beds are in obvious decline....

I love how the river changes throughout the day. At low tide, the riverbed appears, showing rocks and patterns; at high tide, everything turns calm, and the water reflects the sky and houses like a mirror. Este río es la arteria principal sobre la que se ha construido la ciudad de Tavira, diferenciando sus dos orillas. Es curioso, porque hasta que llega a Tavira se llama Séqua, y aquí cambia al nombre de Gilão. En la parte más baja, frente al mercado central, es bonito el paisaje que forman río y pequeñas barcas de pescadores, de colores, dando como resultado una de las imágenes típicas del Algarve.
