A solid choice if you’re craving Indian cuisine while in the Algarve. It’s centrally located, making it easy to find whether you’re exploring the old town or walking along the riverfront.
The menu features a broad selection of classic Indian dishes from tandoori meats to creamy curries and vegetarian options. Portions are generous, and the flavors are satisfying, with a good level of spice that’s customizable to your preference. The garlic naan was fresh and fluffy, and the butter chicken was rich without being overly heavy.
Service was friendly and relatively quick, even during a busy evening. The staff were happy to explain dishes and offer recommendations. The dining area is clean and simply decorated, with both indoor and outdoor seating available depending on the weather.
If you sit outside, you might be next to the trash in certain days though, which can have a bad smell and attract flies.
On some evenings, there will be some nice live music from local artists who will ask for a small tip between performances.
While the food was tasty, some of the dishes leaned a bit more toward a Westernized interpretation of Indian cuisine, so if you’re looking for deep regional authenticity, you might find it a bit mild. That said, it’s still one of the better Indian options in the area.

Read moreHidden gem in Tavira! I wasn't sure about an Indian restaurant in Portugal, but I heard good things and decided to give it a try. What a nice surprise!
Lovely setting with both indoor and outdoor seating areas along the river. Book a table in advance as it filled quickly even on a weeknight.
Menus are provided in several languages and is quite extensive. Vegetable samosas were piping hot with good flavor but nothing special. The vegetable pakoras were much more flavorful and I'd highly recommend them as a starter. Lamb seekh kabobs were moist and tender but could use a slice of lemon for a touch of brightness.
Chicken Tikka served on a hot grill pan was a bit underwhelming. Large chunks of chicken and a good portion size, but it was a bit overcooked and not the most flavorful. The Chicken Pasanda was much more tender and flavorful. The Lamb Rogan Josh was the real winner with large chunks of lamb that were fork tender. Wonderfully fragrant and just the right amount of heat (requested Medium). Rice was delicate and perfectly cooked, and the garlic naan was absolutely perfect.
Staff were friendly and attentive, and they went out of their way to make sure our dinner was correct and to our satisfaction. Overall, it was a great experience and meal for a very reasonable price in this area....
Read moreThis was our second visit to this outstanding Indian Establishment. I had made a reservation for my parents and I on 07/09/2025 for dinner. We were warmly welcomed by our server who was our server from our first visit in July. We started off with the pickle tray, papadam & onion bhaji, truly a masterpiece of different flavors. now to our entrees, my mother had chicken vindaloo, she absolutely enjoyed it, a nice tingling spiced dish, my father had lamb with mushrooms, he enjoyed it, I had my all time favorite dish, Tandoori chicken, a remarkable dish, tender bone in chicken marinated and grilled to perfection, served with onions and peppers on a sizzling skillet. The three of us shared a saffron rice, delicious and we had chili garlic naan, perfect balance. I ended it with Pistachio Kulfi ice cream, made in house, must try! Mr. Dawat and his staff are spectacular! As a Culinarian Foodie I Highly Recommened Dawat Indian Restaurant! Tell them...
