The Union Hall is packed with history, documents, and wall paintings depicting the Great Union of December 1918, when the Kingdom of Romania, Basarabia, Bucovina, and Transylvania united under the same flag and sovereignty, thus be coming Romania for the first time in history. The declaration itself and the documents were signed inside the hall and a replica of the document is on display. The actual resolution and list of requests is also imprinted on the walls. Further to this, you'll also find information regarding the 1859 Unification between Wallachia and Moldova. This is a quick visit that's worth your time if you're passionate about history. While the entrance is free, there's no access to wheelchairs, which will make it difficult to visit for disabled people.

It is such a great place for the Romanians (Dacians). Every time I visit this place, I feel a big pressure and remember me that our ancestors died and fought for the actual people of this country to be free. And every time when I visit the Alba Iulia citadel on the 1st of December, it is like this place is full of life, and I feel like I go back in time. Actually I recommend you to visit on this date and see how this place is full of people and everyone is happy that we are a free nation and this happens starting with more than 2000 years ago. Dacia is written on our hearts.

This tourist attraction is closed 23.12.2023-09.01.2024, despite groups of tourists visiting the citadel. Thank God the churches around are open all year long. Kind advice: Keep open during weekends, National days and holidays. That's when people have time to visit such historical landmarks. The 5 stars are only given for the restauration of the citadel and for being able to present the area to foreign friends.

Ostensibly, this is one of the most historic places in Romania: the hall where the union between Transylvania and the rest of Romania was decided. But instead of providing an adequate explanation and a relevant display, the place is full of dusty, haphazardly-collected set of exhibits all attempting to show how the ethnic Romanians have been in Transylvania for centuries, in what smacks of an effort to protest too much. The main hall displays huge portraits of King Ferdinand with no explanation or context. And it also houses irrelevant temporary exhibition panels; when I visited it in August 2016, it had an exhibition explaining how to tell fake gold from real (!). Nothing about the political context to the Union, the people behind the event, or its world-wide implications, despite the fact that huge amounts of material exist. A massively missed opportunity to educate people about the history of Romania; all you get is a massive hall with random exhibits, a few fading black-and-white pictures of Romanian peasants and some scattered dusty pottery. Heartbreaking for someone who appreciates and loves Romanian history. Ah, yes: the website of the museum managing the Hall was last...
