Beautiful old East European Romanian city of Timisoara once the capital. Unspoilt Mix of Italian Renaissance and Viennese Merchant city Baroque Architecture design. Great cultural centre for Music and Art, terriffic night life with plenty of quality Restaurants, a mix of Italian, various European, Traditional Romanian serving excellent food with great service, good variety of many bars and nightclubs, peak summer period is best with outdoor terraced seating in Beautiful City centre Peoples Squares, many free open air concerts ranging from pop to classical with visits from a variety of big names always something going on. Tradtional city Theatre and Philarmonic Orchestra venues, variety of beautiful Cathedrals from Greek Orthodox to Roman Catholic open to public. This is a great secret gem of a place, friendly safe city, showing the real Romanian people at their best, beautiful, friendly, hard working, go there and experience a beautiful place largely undiscovered by commercial tour operators but served well by cheap flight operators Wizz and Ryann Air. Great mix of accommodation from Quality modern and Traditional Hotels to apartments and Pensuines (self catering). I have been many times over many years and never tire of the charm of this city and its people. Beautiful, Foarte Frumoase Timisoara.

The Victory Square, known until 1990 as the Opera Square, is the central square of Timișoara. It is the place where Timișoara was proclaimed on 20 December 1989 the first city free of communism in Romania. It was a main boulevard, transformed into a square after the closure of the southern side by the construction of the Metropolitan Cathedral. The opposite poles of the square consist of the Opera to the north. From the Opera to the south side of the square the promenade on the right is called Corso, and the one on the left is called Surogat. Both have protected architectural ensembles of local historical importance. The square hosts the buildings of some important institutions such as the National Theater and Opera, Timiș, Capitol and Studio cinemas, the Museum of Banat, several art galleries as well as many shops and sidewalk cafés. Some of the most important cultural events take place in Victory Square: JazzTM, Timfloralis, FEST-FDR, Opera and Operetta Festival, Easter and Christmas fairs, New Year's concerts, etc.

The square is the location where the Romanian anticomunist Revolution started, and is surounded by beautiful baroque buldings like the Moderna Bulding, Hotel Timisoara and the Polytechnic Rectorate, and also more extravant palaces towards the Cathedral The Opera House (the building also contains the National Theatre in the romanian, hungarian and german launguages) was rebuild after being partialy destroyed by american bombs in the second world war - it was probably of significant tactical importance for the allies to bomb this cultural building - before the war it was an exact copy of the Vienna Opera House, now it has neo-bizantine and neo-romanian elements. A good place from where you can start exploring the old town that is mostly pedestriam or the Bega river waterfront. P.S. Don't forget to visit the Orthodox Cathedral oposite the square, built by the last romanian king Michael I, first of his name, for some authentic bizantine-orthodox religious cultural experience

The name Piața Unirii was given to it in 1919, because the Romanian troops that entered Timișoara stopped here. The city hosts important tourist attractions, such as the Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Baroque Palace, the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, the Brück House, the Holy Trinity Monument, the mineral water fountain and other architectural monuments. The buildings have a superb architecture in baroque style, but by far, the most impressive are the Roman Catholic Cathedral and the Timisoara National Opera. For those who are passionate about the history of the city, from the fortifications of the Habsburg fortress on which the city of Timisoara was founded, there is still a bastion, a fragment of a bastion and a casemate, and also, the only almost whole bastion that has been preserved is the Theresia Bastion.

Victory Square (Piata Victoriei) is the central square of Timisoara, Romania. It is a popular tourist destination and a place for locals to relax and socialize. The square is surrounded by many important buildings, including the Timisoara Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, the Timisoara Opera House, and the Timisoara City Hall. Is a beautiful and vibrant place to visit. There is always something to see and do, whether it's people-watching, visiting one of the many museums or art galleries, or enjoying a meal or drink at one of the many restaurants. We really enjoyed walking around this area and relaxing with the little one running around and feeding the birds.

Vibrant, colourful area in Timisoara for dining, entertainment and relaxing. The orthodox church at the end of the square was still open but had a service going so we didn't stay for long. When you go back into the square you'll find performers, restaurants and cafes full of people with plenty to do. The buildings maintain the historical appeal of the old style architecture and worth spending the time to walk down each of the streets that connect back in the middle. When we were leaving there was a band that was playing a range of English songs. Victory square is great to go through if you're passing through by car or bus.
