The Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia, located at 8 Karl Marx Avenue in Petrozavodsk, occupies the historical building of the former Olonets Men's Provincial Gymnasium from the late 18th century, which is a monument of architecture of federal significance. Founded in 1960, the museum began its activities with a collection transferred from the Karelian State Museum of Local Lore, which includes Old Russian paintings, Russian art from the 18th and 19th centuries, works by Karelian artists, and folk art from Karelia. Today, the museum's collection includes over 14,000 exhibits, divided into six main collections: Karelian iconography from the 15th to the 20th centuries, Karelian folk art, Russian art from the 18th to the 20th centuries, Russian art of the 20th century, contemporary art of Karelia, and Western European art. Really nice collection of Karelian art and paintings. It tells you a lot about the place and the lives of people over there. Not to forget the beauty of the nature that surrounds this region and how the nature affects the everyday lives of the people. Мы были в Петрозаводске только один день. Нам порекомендовали посетить этот музей, если останется время. В тот день проходила выставка картин из Третьяковской галереи. Вход стоил 300 рублей, фотографировать запрещено. Выставка заняла четыре зала и коридор. Также, у нас было время на посещение обычной выставки. Здесь мы увидели три картины Айвазовского, макет деревянного храма в Кижах, уменьшенную копию бронзовой композиции коней Клодта на Аничковом мосту в Санкт-Петербурге. В центральном зале представлены национальные наряды карелов, а также предметы быта. В дальних залах представлены православные иконы карельских мастеров, собранные с деревень Карелии. Отдельно хочется отметить картины Карельских художников. Вход на выставку стоил дополнительно 200 рублей. Залы гораздо больше, чем на временной выставке. Было интересно познакомиться с творчеством карельских мастеров. К сожалению у нас был только час времени, хотя для более глубокого изучения работ потребовалось бы...
