Temple of the Holy Three Hierarchs The history of the Almaška Church begins at the beginning of the 18th century, when the inhabitants of the village of Almaša (in Hungarian: alma - apple), motivated by pressure from the county authorities and their tax collectors, moved to Novi Sad and built a settlement on the outskirts, far behind the last houses, north of the center of the city. Since the people of Almašan were firmly devoted to their faith, they first erected a cross on the site of the present church and built a settlement around it, among the ponds that divided Novi Sad into neighborhoods at the time (Salajka, Podbara). Shortly after the foundation of the settlement, in 1718, the first church was built, which, similar to the houses of that time, was made of wattle, covered with mud, and covered with reeds. It is dedicated to the feast of the Holy Three Hierarchs (Basil the Great, John Chrysostom and Gregory the Theologian), in memory of the miraculous discovery of the icon of that feast, when digging a well next to the temple. Soon after the creation of that humble temple, the idea of ​​building a new, more solid church was born. The construction of the new temple was led by the first priest of the Almag settlement - Pope Maxim. The construction was completed in 1733, when on the feast of the Holy Three Hierarchs, the newly built church was consecrated by the Bishop of Bačka Visarion Pavlović. It is interesting that in the then Almaška Church there was an icon of the Mother of God, which was believed to be miraculous and which made the temple a place of pilgrimage. For that miraculous icon, it is not known where it was brought from, nor is it known when and where it disappeared. She rested on the Virgin's throne, roughly where the Madonna of the famous Uroš Predić is today. However, the second temple was not made of suitable material either, so in 1770 the idea of ​​building a new church arose again. The present temple was built from 1775 to 1797. When it was finished, it was consecrated by the bishop of Bačka, Jovan Jovanović, as evidenced by the marble plaque with the name of the Austrian emperor Franz II, which is located on the western facade, above the portal. This temple is also characterized by the presence of a pulpit, which is extremely rare in Orthodox churches. The Almaška church was damaged in the bombardment on June 12, 1848, when the metal part of the bell tower was demolished. It was rebuilt in 1852, thanks to contributions from Russia, but the new belfry never reached its old height - it is 17 meters lower than the original one, which was at a height of 65 meters. In the same year, on July 3, the church was visited and kissed by Emperor Francis Joseph, who arrived in Novi Sad visiting the southern parts of the monarchy. In the second half of the 19th century, the tomb of Christ was made for the church, which was most likely made by Pavle Simić in harmony with the iconostasis. The throne icon of the Virgin was painted by Uroš Predić in 1905. The Almaška church was built on three occasions: 1718, 1733 and 1797 and was dedicated to the Holy Three Hierarchs (St. Basil the Great, Grigorije the Theologian and John Chrysostom) on February 12. Today's temple was consecrated in 1797, it is neo-classical in style, the church was significantly damaged in 1848 and was uncovered for three years, while the upper part with the pointed end was demolished. The facade of the church is decorated with decorative capitals, and the three portals at the front door stand out .The iconostasis was made by Novi Sad carver Aksentije Marković, and the icons and part of the wall painting were made by Arsenije Teodorović. The icon in the Throne of the Virgin, Virgin with Christ, was painted by Uroš Predić in 1905 and is considered one of his best artistic achievements. It is interesting that in 1733 a new church building was built over the old one, and then the old church was demolished and the materials were taken away. Прву цркву на овом месту саградили су Срби 1718. године, који су се доселили на периферију Петроварадинског шанца из оближњег села Алмаш. Како су сви били сиромашни, и храм су изградили од материјала којим су подизали своје куће - од земље, шибља, трске и дасака. Тај храм од плетера, облепљен блатом и покривен шиндром, посветили су светитељима, чији су ликови били на икони, коју су нашли у земљи кад су копали бунар у порти.

Овако саграђена црква није била дугог века. Саграђена је нова од непечене цигле са сводом крова и дасака и освећена је почетком 1733. године. При цркви је 1762. године служило четири свештеника. Наредна црква саграђена је од чвршћег материјала и освећена тек 1797. године. У истом облику стоји и данас. Само је горњи део звоника којег је касније заменио нижи страдао у бомбардовању 1849. године. Са оштећеним звоником и кровом црква је стајала тако до 1852. године, када је стигла помоћ за обнову од прилога из Русије.

Године 1856. Петар Чортановић иконописац "свих шест престолни икона опро је и поновио о свом труду и трошку".

Драгоценост Алмашке цркве је Предићева икона "Богородице са Христом". Наручилац те велике иконе која се налази на Богородичином трону, је била супруга Арсе Пајевића новосадског књижара и књижевника, 1905. године. Али та дивна слика је и интригантна, због више канонских разлога. Пре свега, лик Богородице исувише реалистично урађен, а позајмљен је од гђе Анке Пајевић. Дигла се велика бура (расправа) због кршења православног канона, па је уметник мора да се брани од по њему, сувишних критика.

Алмашка црква је звона набавила пред Први светски рат, али су их Аустријанци током рата, сва скинули и претопили у топове. Када се 1928. године радило на куповини нових (изливању), њихова очекивана тежина је износила...

У нашем граду има више храмова наше Српске православне цркве, али овај је посебан. Одликује га изузетно...не бих могао да напишем речима. Три јерарха (Алмашка црква) је споменик свим Србима у Новом Саду, јер су прве српске породице дошле у Нови Сад управо на тај део града, из села Алмаш. Маџари који су тада били власт, дали су им парче земље између бара, да се ту населе. Отимајући своју рођену земљу назад и од Дунава и од Маџара, ови храбри људи заболи су вечни барјак српства у нашем граду. Ништа ту нису могли окупатори да ураде, а бес и немоћ губитника и злотвора пред Богом и људима, Маџарски окупатор је показао и 1848. када су порушили буквално цео град (само Јодна Бања преживела) и када су НАМЕРНО и из више упорних покушаја, погодили и срушили звоник Алмашке цркве, хицима из топова са тврђаве.
