The Petrovaradin Fortress Clock, located in Novi Sad, Serbia, is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city and a significant cultural and historical symbol. The Petrovaradin Fortress itself dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries and was built as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire's defensive system. The clock tower, known as the "Reversed Clock", is one of its most famous features.

The clock was installed in the 18th century and is unique because its hour hand is larger than the minute hand—a reversal of the traditional design. This was done so that the time could be easily read by fishermen and other workers from a distance, especially on the Danube River.

The clock tower is an elegant baroque-style structure, perfectly complementing the fortress's historic aesthetic. The clock face, with its black Roman numerals on a white background surrounded by golden borders, is striking and highly photogenic. The surrounding panoramic views of the Danube River and Novi Sad from the clock tower are breathtaking.

Viewpoint: It serves as a fantastic observation spot to take in the city skyline, the bridges over the Danube, and the sprawling urban landscape of Novi Sad. This fortress hosts the famous EXIT Festival too, that is the one of Europe’s largest music festivals The clock is affectionately called the "Drunken Clock" by locals because of its unusual hand reversal according to...

Petrovaradin Fortress is a historic landmark with deep roots history of Novi Sad. Walking up to the top rewards you with one of the best panoramic views over Novi Sad and the Danube River. The iconic clock tower at the top is especially popular, not just for its reverse minute and hour hands, but also as a perfect photo spot. Getting around on foot gives the best experience, but be aware that some parts include many stairs and uneven paths. For older visitors or those with mobility issues, certain sections can be a bit tiring. The fortress hides charming cafés, museum and historic tunnels, and during the summer it becomes the heart of EXIT festival. Whether you’re into photography, history, or just enjoying a sunset, this place is a must-visit in...

It’s a must see sightseeing place! Historic monument, trademark of Petrovaradin Fortress & most amazing place from which you will be able to have breathtaking views towards Novi Sad and all the surrounding area!

Interesting fact: Petrovaradin Fortress Clock is little different than any other:

It is famous for its "reversed" hands: the long hand shows the hour and the short hand shows the minutes.

It has temperature-sensitive accuracy, and manually wound mechanism. It was built around 1750 & it’s unique design was created for sailors on the Danube River.

Definitely recommend visiting! Everything here is clean, beautiful & you have here plenty of little cafes and restaurants + small shops for...
