I went onto the nature trail with my family for a photoshoot.

Along the wooden walkway, I kept to the left so that i could walk over the portion that has another log for support as i am slightly afraid of heights.

One of the pieces of wood on the brigde did not have a screw on the other side, so it lifted as i stepped on it, i fell on the walkway, twisted both my ankles, while carrying my 2 year old niece.

I now have 2 large bruises on my left leg, pulled muscles on my right leg quad and triceps, and a stiff neck.

It is a dangerous thing when proper maintenance is not adhered to. That area is used for photoshoots and trail walks by all kinds of people. Imagine if it was a pregnant woman, or the elderly that had fell this way... It could have costed someone their life.

Please maintain walkway. As it really is a wonderful area to visit with friends and family that are nature lovers. And i would love to visit again without fear of the same happening...

#Sans do yourselves a favor and get out to Umhlanga Lagoon Nature reserve-the various trails have become a staple for me. Those with kids stuck on social media phone apps, getting myopic and unhealthy, teach them the beauty of our fauna and flora, birdwatching and appreciating the nocturnal creepy crawlies (if you visit at twilight and hide the bush). This stretch as well as Kranskop Nature reserve in Kloof are stellar as is some of the midlands meanders. It is a pity that locals are so unappreciative of what KZN has to offer. Do yourselves a favor and go hiking. At the end the Vista is a pristine beach(check dipping quality on Ethekwini Website) as North Durban beaches may still have poor water quality restrictions from recent chemical spill from the July...

Although the main entrance to the Nature Reserve is closed, there is an alternate entrance next to a Hawaan building. Parking is on the road side. There is a paved pathway which leads to the beach and a natural pathway to the left of the paved area takes you to the Nature Reserve. No entrance fees and wheelchair friendly Very few picnic spots. A wonderful, cool and shady walk leads you to a beautiful "Forest Cafe" coffee shop with a spectacular painting on the wall. Lots of monkeys along the way so be cautious if you're eating as they tend to be naughty. I enjoyed a beautiful walk to the beach which was temporarily closed due to chemical spills. Beautifully designed walk- way by "Ecology Plastics", so cleverly designed to accommodate the...

This is absolutely a beautiful place! With the most gorgeous scenery! You walk on a wooden path, underneath breath taking trees, filled with the sounds of birds chirping, monkeys playing in the trees and the beautiful sounds the small insects make fill the air with their presence. One you are about half way in you can either go on a very exciting hike with beautiful "rain forest" like views or you can follow the wooden path, go through a bit of a hike and reach the most beautiful beach. Its not very busy so this is a great place for photography. Would recommend this beautiful place to anyone that loves the beach and the forest. It is child friendly if the child is accompanied by an adult, not wheel chair friendly though.

An absolute gem, in the heart of one of the busiest hubs! A "sho't left" at the north end of the promenade and you enter a world that quickly transports you away from the bustle of things. Whether it's a leasurely stroll through the trail to get to the beach, or a quick jog to the end of it and then back again to add an invigorating element of trail running to your jog / run, its definitely a must do! The trail is a great opportunity to experience the bird life and the dainty Duiker that mosey through the thick! The only complaint that one could possibly have, is that the trail is too short! ...... An update on this post.... Finally got a pic of a Duiker today.... And an amazing sunrise!
