Prince Albert is a town of contrasts with deep pride in its history and filled with the warmth of its people.

I was drawn to the story of Fransie Pienaar and her collection of little things which had grown into an amazing collection of antiques, odds and ends.

Fransie donated her collection to the people of Prince Albert - now housed in a beautiful museum which once served as a hospital.

Its easy to imagine Fransie showing people around and sharing her stories behind individual prized pieces.

The museum includes a intriguing fossil exhibition, a weapons room, a medical section, items from the Victorian era and recent donations from the...

This is a well-laid out museum dedicated almost exclusively to detailing the history of Prince Albert, the Swartberg Pass and surrounds. The displays have been put together with passion and backed up with well-written documentation. It's a pity it is so dark in places that the displays are difficult to appreciate. The entrance fee is a reasonably R20 per adult. Do Google closing times as they close early on some days. Don't forget to look at Karoo Supergroup fossil collection in the room to the left of the museum entrance...

Cool dip into the history of the town. Interesting collection and a few fossils as well which was surprising. Quite a few linkages and items from British colonial time which was interesting too. If you are driving the Swartberg pass, make sure to check the section of the museum which details its history. Michelle is a wonderful person and very informative and knowledgeable so be sure to ask for her if you have...

Rich in history, mostly settler history. With a tiny contribution about its natural inhabitants. Lot you can learn about Afrikaner history, about the Queen and the place before it was renamed Prince Albert. Great architectural history as well
