Booked in for dinner based on family recommendations. Setting is lovely and so is the location. Booked 2 months in advance and was told specifically that we had to book a early arrival time as the kitchen closes at 9pm. As such booked at 6:30. On the day we arrived later in town as expected due to travel issues. Phoned in and asked if we could arrive 6:30 for 7. Was catagorically made to feel that this is a severe inconvenience and our table would be given away. As such we went straight to the hotel. Ordered food and was taken aback by the pricing and portioning. The ravioli starter is literally 2 small pieces of deep fried ravioli.amd the halloumi is the same. Main courses are quite limited. Pork belly was very soggy and no crisp to it at all. Seemed it was poached and the crisp was an after thought. Steak was tender but expected that for the exorbitant price. Vegetables and mash was very very bland. The biggest dissapointed was the cheese and chocolate board for dessert. 2 balls of ferrero rocher, 2 balls of a home made chocolate ball, a 6th of a camembert wedge, a tea spoon full of blue cheese and some hard dried out out pecorino type cheese for a price that made ur eyes water more than the blue cheese. Very dissapointing. Waitering staff left all empty water and cooldrink bottles on the table, which was small and as such very crowded. Number of tables open so was surprised by their attitude to our possible slightly late arrival and their attitude on the phone. Will definately find alternate eating places in Prince...

A Haven of Luxury in the Heart of Prince Albert

From the moment I stepped into the Swartberg Hotel, I knew I was in for an unparalleled experience. Nestled in the picturesque town of Prince Albert in South Africa's Western Cape, this hotel is a true gem.

My room was the epitome of luxury. Every detail, from the plush bedding to the elegant decor, was meticulously curated to ensure utmost comfort. Waking up in such a serene environment was a daily treat, and the views from my window were simply breathtaking.

But what truly sets the Swartberg Hotel apart is its exceptional service. I've had the privilege of staying in numerous hotels around the world, but I've never encountered staff as warm and welcoming as those at Swartberg. Their genuine smiles and eagerness to assist made me feel like royalty.

Location-wise, the hotel is unbeatable. Situated at the heart of Prince Albert, it's just a short walk away from the town's main attractions. Whether you're looking to explore local shops, dine at quaint cafes, or simply soak in the town's rich history, everything is within arm's reach.

In summary, my stay at the Swartberg Hotel was nothing short of magical. It's a sanctuary of relaxation and luxury, and I can't wait to return. If you're planning a trip to Prince Albert, do yourself a favor and book a room here. You...

I booked this property for a bit of comfort after hiking days in Swartberg mountains. The gym listed was simply removed and non-existent. Not a single piece of equipment left. The spa personnel did a terrible permanent make-up job to my wife, they just used another color than what she asked instead of saying they didn’t have her asked color. Then they were very rude about it. The off-street parking they promised was full. The shower was cold (although this was later fixed we did have two days of cold showers), the aircon was broken and replaced by a super loud machine. Now I can be flexible, and accept imperfections but in return, when we asked to cancel our last night we got a firm NO, and no discussion, the owner just sent her personnel with the message "we can't do anything". We asked to talk to her, not possible. We had to pay full price for the bad spa treatment and hotel that wasn't at all as listed on the internet. Don’t stay here, Prince Albert is a nice place, I advise you to go but there are much nicer places to stay...

Beautiful 160 year old hotel that has been updated on the inside while keeping it's historic feel. Extremely clean with wonderfully comfortable beds and furniture. We stayed here one night and enjoyed dinner in the restaurant. I highly recommend the Lamb Shank and my husband the beef. We were in an upstairs room which had a balcony overlooking the cities main street. Street noise was not a problem in this little town. Breakfast in the attached coffee/tea room was wonderful the hollandaise sauce was very nice. They also have a small bar inside the hotel and a gin bar next door. We comfortably sat in the lobby sitting area which includes an actual reading room containing old books and hotel registries dating back to the hotel beginnings. The staff and service we're excellent, from reception, to wait staff. We had a wonderful experience here. Would highly recommend it for antique charm with updated amenities and service.

I first stayed at the Swartberg in 2008 when it was slightly run-down but charming. My next stay was in 2016. It had ‘gone upmarket’, usually just an excuse to charge more, but remained essentially the same, with a good restaurant and food shop. It’s now become part of a posh-sounding (expensive?) chain called Mont d’Or. It remains to be seen whether these regular reinventions of the Swartberg are for better or worse, but I’ll certainly give it the benefit of the doubt. These characterful old properties are unique.
