We loved our stay at Onse Rus Guest House. From the moment we arrived, we felt very welcome and we made ourselves at home. The property is exquisite - mid 1800s Cape Dutch home which, for history lovers like ourselves, we really appreciated! Our room (suite rather) was spotless, spacious and extremely comfortable. We were staying in Prince Albert for the Gravel Grinder cycling tour so we had a lot of stuff with us. Our suite gave us ample space and the kitchenette made our lives so much easier. The electric blankets really saved my legs over the 3 day tour so I was very grateful for those! We were also able to get some laundry done which helped us so much. Breakfast was a highlight. The dining room is SO beautiful. It is renovated but it still looks original. I felt like we had gone back in time. Leonard makes fresh sourdough bread which was such a treat! And on top of fresh fruit salad, yoghurt and croissants, we had our choice of hot breakfast. Leonard introduced us to fresh basil in our omelettes and it was just divine. The coffee was incredible too (and we got great tips and tricks from Leonard re: coffee and fresh milk for our upcoming Orange River trip). Our group loved the common area spaces - back garden lounge / dining area, the lounge inside with a fireplace and the most delicious port (thanks, Neil), and then the front verandah seating area under the trees where you can sit with a glass of wine and watch the world go by. It is such a beautiful place, run effortlessly by Leonard and Neil. We highly recommend Onse Rus...
Read moreLeonard and Neil are superb hosts. Set on a historical property, the heritage house has a lovely garden and pool area as well as comfortable lounge and dining room. I appreciated the warm combustion stove and complimentary port on arrival – with snow on the Swartberg mountains. My en-suite room was spacious and immaculate and it was equipped with everything needed to make my stay comfortable – quality linen and towels, tea & coffee and home-made rusks, fresh greenery, magazines and fragrant amenities. I slept like a dream! Excellent dinner recommendation and reservation made by Leonard. Breakfast was superb! Leonard crafted the butter, Seville and apricot jams and sourdough bread himself. Yoghurt was from a local dairy – Gay’s Guernsey Dairy. Freshly baked croissants too! Outstanding hospitality combined with excellent...
Read moreThis is the place to stay after driving the Swartberg Pass. Popular with travelers, it's a 100 year old Dutch farm house with thatch roof, built around a courtyard in Prince Albert. It has original Cape Dutch architecture with thatch roof, original Dutch doors, shutters and brass hardware. The rooms are all different. Because of the low costs, we splurged and got a three room combo for less than we would have spent for a single someplace else. Lisa is a great host, humble and a great cook. You MUST drive the Swartburg pass if you come to...
