This park was really beautiful and there was so much to see. We have spend almost four hours there.
However the space/enclosures for each animal were waaaaaaay too small. None of these animals looked well.
The parrots at the beginning had no space at all to fly or to stretch their wings. They REALLY looked sad, tired and not healthy.
And the little tortoise in this tiny glass Box was in so much stress, it walked back and forth and scratched on the glass because it wanted out.
Oh and there is a huge budgie cage with soooo many of these little birds. There is a little blue one that is OUTSIDE the enclosure and can't find its way in. It sits in one of the trees nearby.
I could say so much more, but I'm afraid I won't be finish with this review till tomorrow.
This park has soooooo much space for millions of trees, flowers, plants. So PLEASE PLEASE use this beautiful space and change this! These enclosures need to be BIGGER and species-appropriate with plants to hide or stuff for housing! NONE of them looked happy to be there. If they have to spend their life there, please make sure they have enough space to roam and to live more freely, like they used to in their natural habitat. Because the way it is now, it's nothing more than a...
Read moreSo, this private park was started by a Jeju man in the 1970s , in what was basically a barren plot of land. It is now quite beautiful.
This park boasts two cave systems, a menagerie of animals, a bonsai garden, multiple greenhouses for different climate types, and a bunch of large sculptures.
I would have given this 5 stars if the animals weren't kept in such awful conditions. They look sickly and are given almost no room. Tiny cages with many animals per cage in some cases.
You could smell the ostriches from very far away and their feathers looked awful.
Now that we've covered the "bad" we can move to all the good parts.
Hundreds of types of flowers, a dozen different palm species, at least a hundred bonsai with some really great specimens, a full cactus house, and a bunch of lovely walks.
The caves are just long enough to cool you off between seeing the plants but not long enough to get cold. It really does help jerk things interesting.
The flower house is pretty crazy too.
I spent at least 30 minutes just looking at the many bonsai/bunjae(분재).
It's better to go earlier because the mosquitoes get active...
Read moreHallim Park in Jeju Island is one of the most popular tourist spots located in Hallim-eup. We visited during fall time and the weather is just perfect. Cool breeze alongside the sea of green will make a nice day stroll for anyone who like a huge botanical park such as this. Hallim Park, reaching almost 100 thousand square meters, has a variety of gardens that can be enjoyed in any season.
Starting from the entrance, they have the Palm Tree Road (which I think resembles Hollywood), Jeju Stone and Bonsai Garden, Water Garden, Subtropical Botanic Garden, and much more. The most famous ones are Hyeopjaegul and Ssangyonggul Caves, known to be the only two-dimensional caves in the world. In addition they have a folk village, children’s amusement park and outdoor resort facilities to cater to all age groups.
I highly recommend visiting this place just to stroll around and enjoying a multitude of different atmosphere. Estimated time spent is 3 hours and more....
