One of the good universities of the Republic of Korea with a relatively long history and lots of influential alumni. Its name is an acronym of Yonhee University(延禧專門學校) and Severance Hospital, which were merged in the 1940’s or 50’s or something.
It is most famous for its Medical and Business schools, not unlike Keio of Japan and Cornell of the US, and many of Korea’s modern leaders are alumni of this university. It used to have a strong rivalry with Korea University, another good private university of South Korea, but I am- as a graduate of Yonsei- feeling that it’s kind of fading away(although this may well be because I am getting too old to feel the fun anymore). The campus is also unbelievably pretty, with a good deal of South Korean history literally engraved in many of its buildings, e.g. most of the buildings have the names of missionaries, politicians, and even entrepreneurs attached to them.
I see some misinformation here and there though. I think Kim Yuna is from Korea University and Yonsei University was founded in the early 20th century. If you’re talking about the Medical School, Severance Hospital, it was founded in’18’85, as opposed to 1985. Anyway, if you are interested in studying in the ROK this is going to be a solid choice, particularly for Liberal Arts and Medicine. If not, this is a great place to chill and enjoy the young, vibrant atmosphere of Yonsei students. They are generally known to be intelligent yet debonair, at...

Read moreAhh the memories of this place. I got to be an exchange student at Yonsei, a place that I marveled at in every way. The entrance and place itself makes you feel like you're doing worthwhile when you enter. Being a part of it is a beautiful memory. The facilities have everything you could need (and you can visit most without being a student so don't be shy)! The place is as big as a literal village. That is also without counting the strength of the history of the place, and of course the quality of education. Passionate students who work hard as well as professors who really care for their students. I felt lucky to have been part of such an experience, and understand why it is the pride of...
